Verse and rhyme for Fall Festival time

Postby janelle » Sun Sep 30, 2007 7:08 pm

The Unity of Light are pleased to announce they are hosting a poetry competition in honour of the Fall Festival. The themes to choose from will be:-
1) Beginnings - you can write about events, meetings and friendships you have made
2) Changes - could be the changes we all go through in life, the changing seasons....
3) Endings - do all good things come to an end? Is an ending really the beginning of something new?

The competition starts as from now and closes at midnight DG time on the 12th October. Judging will take place on Saturday 13th October and the winner announced at 2pm Eastern time. The results will be posted in this thread. Winners will be contacted to be given their prize. Judges decision is final.

The prizes are as follows:-
First prize 5000 plat and a treasure box
Second prize 3000 plat and two doorway crystals
Third prize 2000 plat and a death reset scroll

A small prize will be given to all entrants.

Entries can be posted here or on our Forum, although entries will be moved to the main forum on the day of judging.

Good luck and we look forward to reading your entries very soon.

Any questions please contact:-

Death

Postby james silver » Sat Oct 06, 2007 12:13 pm

We are born into this world.
We carry ourselves with pride.
We live our lives to help and protect all.
We live for our families and friends.
We live to bring happines and love.
We are all born to one day die.
It's a fact of life.
we leave loved ones behind to mourn.
We leave friends and family with a hole in their hearts.
Few get to choose when it's time to go.
Few get to say a final goodbye to all.

All we know is that with life comes death.
With death comes rebirth.
We are never really gone.
We carry on in another world and another time.
We carry on in the hearts of our family and friends.
We shall always carry on and shall always be.
For not even death can't take away the memories of all we did.

The end of a life

Postby Despy » Sun Oct 07, 2007 6:55 pm

The end of a life, though not in death
but of the way things used to be
A chance not taken, didnt give my best
and now a relationship will never be

Whom did I lose that i gave away?
She knows who she is, i'd rather not say.
Such is life, i've come to accept
To her new man goes my respect.

Not the first time I've made this mistake
I guard myself too much from heartbreak
These things are a big risk to take
Never to bond, too big of a stake.

I shall find a new life, as I've done before
surrounded by friends, but none to adore.
Do not punish myself like this, i self-implore
i shall never fall in love again, i wont hurt anymore .

There are times when you cry,
Lost, drowning in your own sorrow,
Dying at every lie,
Not wanting to face the morrow.

Everytime the Sunrifter appeared,
You would cringe and look away,
And everytime the light disappeared,
You would try to keep away the day.

Then someone, or something, will appear in your life,
You will look up and smile at the Sunrfiter's light,
You will be freed from the strain of strife,
And you would look at the day and think, "What a sight."

From Dundee's great and stoney walls
I set upon the road,
Not knowing what the future held
Upon the path I strode.

I came upon a youth so fair
In armour shining bright.
And in his pack he kept no cares.
He made his burdens light.
He laughed at me as he flew by
And yelled he'd get there first,
Then left to find a faster race
And slake his glory thirst.

I happened on a merry man,
Quite rooted to the earth
And when I asked how long he's stayed
He said "almost from birth".
He beckoned me to sit a while
Instead of trudging on.
But when I hoped to learn his tale,
I found there wasn't one.

Then when I chanced upon a fork
I took the path less trod,
And met a weary traveller
Who smiled and gave a nod.
I asked him why he chose a path
So steep and so severe
He answered that it led him to
The folks he held most dear

I puzzled as we walked along,
Where he was going to.
He laughed and took my hand and said,
"It leads to folk like you".
So if my journey never ends,
Good company I'll keep.
For we have many paths to tread
and many friends to meet.

Seasons Change: A Fall Ghazal

A fiery quilt on the hills is the first sign of Fall.
It stays draped until winter and then it falls.

The hart leaps through the woods stalked by the patient hunter;
as the hunter closes and strikes with spear, the deer falls.

Bears grumble and prowl looking for the last morsels
to fatten themselves up in the last harvest of the Fall.

People run back and forth, searching, hunting
for their costumes for the coming festival of the Fall.

Sunrifter shines golden in the sky;
We gain comfort from its light falling.

The season is ripe for remembering those who are here
and those who are gone. We bow our heads as the tears fall.

Lightning scrapes across the sky - the storms of the season.
We watch with our eyes and mouths open as the bolts fall.

A gift for Gabby

When umbra lengthens
Shadows visit more often
Leaves all start to transform
To gold and red and brown

A leaf floats to the ground
Spinning in circles as it falls down
Caught in the breeze it lands in a stream
Sailing away like a ship in my dream

Please ticking hands of time
Let me journey to meats, fruit and wine
Each one different each one sublime
Mark each day with echoes that stir my mind

Stir of echoes unbind the illusion
Dreamer covets not , seek out the solution
Walk the trails and map the way
Let each hair slowly turn to gray

Follow the leaf down the stream
Desist from only living in a dream
Let the change of the season change you
Be swept away like the leaf , fates current grant you something new

Feast of the harvest of the season
Celebrate your life you have chosen
Soon the new season will approach
Grasp today , tomorrow will give a different toast

Beautiful memories made eating roast
Sharing company of friends , family and a gracious host
Pearls of wisdom gained in laying under the stars till dawn
Teardrops falling , laughter roaring, belly swelling all fall long....

Winds of frost flow
Under it’s blanket of snow
Ground soon to sleep and shiver
Into the house now to rest and start a fire
A new change a new solstice begins
But that is a story for another day ...........

Endings . . and beginnings, and actually changes as well, I guess . . A metaphor, if you will, of love . .

The chill winter mellowed to a soft spring breeze
That conspired with the rain to thaw the sad young tree
And tugged with insistence at the very last leaves
That clung to her frozen crown.

The wind’s warm breath uncurled her weary fists
And wrapped her gently in the morning mists
And brushed through her branches with a tender kiss
And taught her not to frown.

He teased her and he laughed with such a playful ease
And brought her gifts and thought that they would surely please
And hid them in the canopy of lush new leaves
That robed her like a gown.

Springtime broadened into summer days
The little tree grew fonder of his merry ways
He’d dance and sing so lightly as she’d bend and sway
Her branches round him bound.

To the wind and tree it seemed that time stood fully still
As they basked beneath the sunshine and they drank their fill
And life took on a sweetness on that happy hill
As few have ever known . .

They both refused to take note of the seasons arc
Whispering of cooler days and lengthening dark
Heedless as the migratory birds’ embark
Til her first leaf fluttered down.

Her emerald garments turned to richest reds and gold
Bewildered at caresses that had now grown cold
Destinies diverging as the days unfold
They watched their dreams unwound

And even though the wind tried, vainly held his breath
Nothing he could do would halt her slow, sure death
He held her as she uttered one last soft request
To wake her in the spring . .

To wake her in the long and distant spring . .

A rhyme royal for Autumn.

In burnished hues to lie upon the ground
the leaves descend with every whispered breeze;
a fallen moment, shed without a sound
and lost forever by denuded trees.
A russet carpet spreads across the leas
while all around the air is crisp and bright –
Autumn is here, with softly glowing light.

In Verthedge, and the dark woods of Dundee,
those passing slow their steps to stay within
the amber medley of the turning tree.
With deeper breaths they move to town or inn
and rest, a gentle blush upon their skin.
Perhaps the glory of the season turn
can offer us a lesson fit to learn.

The trees mourn not the dying of their leaves,
but beautify them in a blaze of gold,
of muted crimson piles and ochre sheaves;
the curling leaf must fall as days grow cold
in order that a new one might unfold.
In Autumn lives, new days become the past –
so all should live each moment as our last.

Posted for Skyelark, char 92014 ^_^ this one sorta has to do with endings.....

Ever Escape

Dancing freely, without a care
Sunlight banishes nites despair
Butterflies swarm, then disappear
Birds call out from far and near
Flowers bloom and bow in the winds
Cold air blows; Winter begins
Feet falter; Don't stop dancing
Ice and snow slow the prancing
Cold and wind saps away joy
Fierce winds whip you like winters toy
All alone; No one there
Darkness closing; Nites despair
Strike out and fight; Can't get free
Winter sings; No longer see
Shackled tight; Begin to fail
Mind closes up; The last safe jail
When all is gone, will all be lost
Endings coming, steal breath with frost
...Surprising freedom, like snapping thread
Wake up and wonder what paths you tread.

Haiku for Fall.

Loose your verdant grip,
Sun crisp dried: red, orange, gold.
Carelessly leave me.

SEASONS

Begin the song of season's turning,
turning the year round, marc by marc.
Mark well the pace, Sunrifter's dance,
dance to its measure, last and first.

First and fiercest, face the winter:
winter wind blows bitter cold,
cold as death and pain and sorrow,
sorrow deep as drifting snow.
Snow and sorrow, shadow-chains,
chains of ice, melt and set free,
free as falling rain in spring.

Spring is next with sweetest song:
song of birds, Sunrifter's rising,
rising hopes of youthful heroes.
Heroes' hearts now join the dance,
dance of leaves, of flowers growing,
growing swiftness, strength and grace,
grace of the gods, till summer's glory.

Glory shines in the summer sky;
sky-ruling Sunrifter's strength burns bright.
Bright as gold is the desert heat;
heat shimmers on the Lake of Valorn.
Valorn basks in a blaze of light,
light in the eyes of lovers dancing,
dancing, turning, rise and fall.

Fall will follow in fruitful time,
time of tree-gold, leaves red-burning,
burning bonfires, guilds gathering,
gathering close their beloved brothers.
Brothers and sisters strengthen the walls,
walls against winter, of love and faith,
faith in the gods, and heroes' honor.

Honor each other, one and all.
All join the dance; rejoice and hail.
Hail Fall Festival! Let it begin;
begin the song of season's turning.
