Casting spells on items

Postby Cory » Thu Apr 13, 2006 7:46 pm

You can now only cast a spell one time per person, even for items. You can no longer stack featherweight, ac, or attack on tons of mugs. If you cast a spell on an item that is already cast on a different item for that person then it will expire the old one.

Everyones first reaction is, of course, going to be very negative. Right now enchanters and clerics can often outfight and out defend warriors due to their attack and AC bonus spells. While I'm sure no enchanter or cleric minds that, its not realistic. Warriors are the melee specialists.

The main reason to do this though, is not actuall the one just listed. For a very long time people have been adding AC or attack to every single possible item they've had and we haven't said much other than the fact that it wouldn't be like that forever. We have been unable to create a variety of spells because we were afraid of this stacking problem. Finally the code was finished to do indepth checks on a player like this so we can ensure spells are not being abused so we can create a larger variety of spells.

Now that we can finally make more changes to the spell system without fear of abuse, you may see a larger variety of spells coming down the line.

So, to summarize that, you can still enchant or bless every item you have, AS LONG AS you have enough spells for each item to have a unique spell. Once you try to repeat any spell or blessing, the identical spell you cast before will be expired.

Got it? =)

Spells now expire from items when traded or sold also.
