General Creature Updates - check here for critter tweaks

Postby Ben » Mon Sep 15, 2003 3:00 am

There were some mistakes in the farm animal coding that have been fixed, so you may notice that some of them are easier than before, and some are harder.

The Giant Swamp Viper was suffering from the same disease, so he is tougher than he was before (but as tough as he was MEANT to be).

He also drops less now, but shows up slightly more often. I dont want to be more specific than that, because some people dont know about him yet. He will change AGAIN to reflect something cool Cory is programming right now... but I won't post here again when that goes in, because its so cool I want it to be a surprise ;)

Giant sand beetles had the opposite prob... they were for some reason MORE powerful then they were supposed to be. Some stats have been reduced.

Hunters have culled most of the large creatures in the areas that contain the road from Dundee to Milltown. Watch out for wolves, though, as they still travel the road sometimes!

Some of the creatures level 20+ have been tweaked slightly. There was no kill-off of the old style monsters, though, so anything that spawned before this change will be the old strength.

The Bandits finally realized that by promoting Sergeants to General every 5 seconds, they were only encouraging their mass slaughter.

Made most of the lvl 4 and under creatures a bit tougher and worth a bit less XP to help slow the early skyrocket growth of new players, without making it so difficult that they want to leave. It should still be EASY, just not rediculously easy, to get to level 5.

The creatures at The Wall, and the Egyptian buddies in the Tomb have been eating their wheaties... as have some of the creatures in the fire cave and a few types of ogres. Expect more changes as we get used to this new XP system.

I am currently going through all monsters in game and tinkering with their stats...

the goal is to make it so that monsters that give out the same XP all behave about the same.

This will not be universal... so if you find critters that give them same XP but are harder, etc, it is on purpose from now on. ;)

Anyway, just warning you, because starting now many critters will be different... either easier or harder.

I have finished. After all current monsters are killed off by players, the new versions should start popping up.

The major creature update is in. Many will be changed... either harder or easier.

UPPER LEVEL PLAYERS (28+), PLEASE be honest and send me a message if certain creatures are too easy. For instance, if you are killing critters that give you 1% XP or more, and they take less than half your HP, thats wrong. PLEASE let me know. You can be one of my class pets. ;)

everything level 15 on down has been altered....

hopefully in a way that will keep jellies from slaughtering lvl 10 characters. =\

As with most creature updates, all old creatures will have to be killed off before the new style creatures start spawning in their place. I cleared the sewers for you, and will do the forest, too, but everything else is up to you.

SOME creatures above level 15 got changes as well, but nothing as extreme.

Switched some more monsters over to giving loot instead of straight cash (or, in some cases, nothing at all =\). This is an ongoing project. ;)

April 2nd:

The 1st 'level' of the swamp was changed so that the creatures are worth more XP, but are not significantly harder than they were. It should be a great place to hunt if you are level 4 and 5. They do give slightly less money now, though, to keep more powerful players from taking advantage of the situation for super easy cash.

The Zombie Ravager was lowered to be more on par with his zombie minions. He used to be several levels stronger than them. The treasure he drops has a lower level requirement now, also, to go along with this change.

Some creatures in eastern Valorn were fixed. I had mistakenly given them stats of the creatures the next level below. If you can't kill something you used to be able to kill, it is because the creature is a higher level than you and was just messed up before. ;)
