July update

Postby Coder of Admin » Thu Jul 31, 2014 1:29 am

Thanks for your patience with today's update, it was a little larger than expected.

We hope that you will find a big difference in the responsiveness of the game at the top of the hour. I've run some tests and have not seen delays however we really want to know your experiences.

The loading time from one area to another has decreased dramatically :D

I had a bit of an issue with the chat box not wanting to load but it has seemed to fix itself mostly...It was very laggy and empty for about a minute

Unfortunately, Coder, I still seemed to have a bit of a lag at the top of the hour. Just clicking a directional froze for a few seconds, maybe 4?

Nothing awful, mind you, but I wouldn't have known there were some new efforts installed to combat it. Struck me as the usual behavior.

Greetings.

I'm getting about 5-8 seconds of lag routinely 3 minutes to the hour change most hours.

Still have the 3-4 seconds at the top of the hour.

I also must report a consistent lag at one minute before the hour.

Before the hour‽

Is it possible that your watch is slow? :)

Seriously though, I'll poke around from about 10 minutes before the hour until 10 minutes after the hour and see if I can pinpoint the issue.

We will also do a silent deployment today to make some more progress.

Am I right to believe that the lag is shorter?

Yes sir, the lag is shorter. And, I checked the lag on multiple pc's and devices to verify it did exist.

I'm afraid I did not see any lag in the hour just past.

The scripts are triggered at the top of the hour (so inevitably start just after the hour change) and have an average run time of 32.5 seconds.

I'll keep monitoring it.

After a day of hardcore optimisation, the last run spent around 0.4s at the database, or about 1% of the previous average run time.

Total time to run is still 4.5s but that is because I've told the script to go to sleep after each task is performed so that your requests in the game are allowed to jump in rather than having to wait the full half a second.

I will want to see how this performs under heavy load so we will keep watch.

I've not had hourly lag. I'm also using my phone which has worse lag so this is good. =)

I just deactivated the Continental doorway and had a few seconds of lag.

9:28 pm BST - I'm not sure if it affected anyone else in the game

This particular update was only related to top-of-the-hour tasks.

We will be looking over every aspect of the game so I'll look into that one for you.

Just tested top of the hour. Indeed no noticable lag. Thank you for your hard work.

A HUGE thank you to Coder of Admin. I have terrible internet as it is. It's almost as if this was done specifically for me. Seriously though. Thank you for your hard work.

This sounds super promising and cannot wait for the aces up the sleeves proverbally speaking.

I used to know when the turn of the hour happened because I'd be staring at a mob wanting to kill it for like 15 seconds...now I miss it entirely. I love it.

Yes, huge thanks to you, Coder. The lag is basically non existant for me.
