Bathazar is back with a vengeance

Postby Haven Celes » Thu Jun 15, 2006 11:21 pm

I think the changes to Balthazar are great. Don't get me wrong, getting levels stripped, or being horribly mutilated isn't fun. But it is about time that people learned some respect for DG's number 1 bad guy.

Being that this is a roleplaying game, you would think more people would actually use the chance to truly rp when they run into the head of all evil. Not run over to him and hug him, flip him off, do a jig, or throw an arm over his shoulder while your best mate paints a picture.

So I am happy that people will now have a reason to fear Balthazar. Maybe now when he shows up there will be some true role playing, not a comedy circus.
I didn't escape this time, they gave me a day pass.

Whilst it's great that Balthazar is more powerful IC and people should be afraid of him now, I've always thought it a pity that people didn't take him seriously because of the nature of the game allowing us to return from death.

But I'm certainly hoping for alot more varied and serious reactions to him now, running away in abject fear is probably the safest and most reasonable thing to do but if it's in line with your characters nature go ahead for the gung ho death and glory charge, just be prepared to except what happens.

Trying to make sense of gods and goddesses has led many men to ruin. I suggest you avoid it from now on.

As it says to the left......I talk WAY too much. ;)
And yes, I am fully aware that currently it says so to the right, rather than the left, which used to be the location for said line, but I am simply too lazy to change it for you.

Hm. This seems to present a conundrum. Well, for me anyway. Or maybe this takes me beyond my role-playing abilities.
The way I see it we can: Battle evil and suffer horribly with no chance of victory; run away and stay safe but allow the evil to proliferate; or talk/rp about being afraid, cowering without fleeing or engaging, if you will.

I will bend myself to prayers for guidance and strength. And maybe toss in a small wish for an Anti-Balthazar Shield of Righteous Protection from Bad Demony Stuff!

This sounds like a lot of fun! Thanks!!

The problem there is a narrow viewof how to defeat him. Since he is protected from you for the most part, there is no use in melee combat with him, so that does nothing to defeat him while putting you at considerable risk. Running isn't cowering in fear so much as allowing heros to pick their battles.

Picking ones battles is the smartest thing a person can do. No sense in charging into something that you know you will not be able to succeed in. Best to stand back, watch, and learn. Eventually you be able to discover an enemies weakness and then better plan the attack.

*Grins* Cray's full of contradictions, his abject fear of Balthazar is one of them. He's terrified of him, and berates people for using "Balthy", the oh so popular nickname for new adventurers, but 99% of the time, he'll run out there just to see what the fuss is about. :P .
