Miranda's Signature

Postby Miranda of Admin » Sun Aug 17, 2008 12:45 am

The flattering contest to draw my smile gave me the idea of this contest. I'm very fond of my little avatar, but perhaps a signature might give my forum posts a bit more 'spark.'

Please post your entries on this thread, with your character ID. One entry per character. (Yes, character.)
Closing date is Monday 1st September at 7pm EST.

Here are the conditions.

1. It must suit me.
2. It must contain my full title, somehow, and must be spelled correctly. (Good luck.) Don't bother with 'The Noble' as that is obvious ;)
3. It must contain no nudity or semi-nudity (I've seen what some people think should represent them. .disgraceful.)
4. It can contain other words if you like. . or not.
5. It must fit the forum guidelines for size, because I'd like to use it.

There will be a prize, though I haven't decided what yet. I may pick one winner, or I may be indecisive and pick two. I have no idea what I want, so you'll have to guess what will please. I might award other sub-prizes too, eg for humor, creativity etc. In other words, just have a go. If you're very lucky, I might smile.

Edit to add: Yes, I do have a sense of humor. But be careful = )

Usually when I do signatures I'll ask from people (or Gods) what they want in it. Obviously, this time that wouldn't work as this is a competition after all. So...ummm...this is my entry for the contest. *ducks*

ooh, a fun contest... Made me try something new. (to be honest, Urkki's entry above gave me the idea to use an animated gif) Too bad the animated gif decreases the quality of the original files though, so I've include some of the originals I made. The 'Miranda' is completely originally made (not just a picture from the web. So it is unique)
I could probably try an animated PNG to increase the quality, but a lot of browsers don't support that yet.

EDIT:
I've been getting a couple of questions how I did this. It actually took several picture editing programs:
-Gimp (to be able to work in layers, to finetune the background color, and creaty text and the 'glowy' effect of Miranda). It is an alternative to Photoshop
-Awicons (to create hair, neck and shoulders). I allways use this as my instrument to draw something from scratch. It's simple and quite easy to use once you get the hang of it)
-facegen modeller (to create the face and make Miranda smile). It doesn't come much easier than this: drawing a face (and a smile) just by changing some sliders
-irfanview (for general resizing and file handling). Hentez told me about this one. A good program to manage, convert, resize,... picture files.
- Easy Gif animator (to create the animated GIF)

Well, ... I hope that helps.

EDIT:
changed the timing of the animated gif file. It now delays longer at the smile, and the progress of smiling itself is faster, so you got less of a 'blinking' effect

I've gone over and over this, and I've decided I'm going to give a first and second prize (although there were six who were in the running.)

However, a bit of a twist to this contest. One of the top two has been chosen because of the concept and one has been chosen for the art. Both have something about them that I would change, if I could customize them. I am going to contact both players by PM in game, and ask them to make those changes. If they wish to (as they may not, after all their hard work) then they can make the alterations(s) and send me the changed entry by PM.

I've come to the conclusion that this is the only way I can decide.

What I will say just now is that Korba, you aren't in the top two, but I love your avatar sized M. So with your permission I'll find a suitable gift in return, and replace my sparks with it.
