Contest: Love Poetry

Postby Topaz » Sat Feb 09, 2008 4:49 pm

To honor those who love and those who are beloved, I am holding a contest for love poetry. The rules:

1. Each entry must be a love poem specifically dedicated to a person who serves as an inspiration. It is strongly suggested that the writer obtain the permission of his or her inspiration, because:

2. The name and character number of both the writer and his or her inspiration must be provided along with the entry. Entries should be posted in this thread for all to read.

3. One entry per character. Alts are welcome.

4. Couples are allowed to enter each other, e.g. if Topaz the Poet submits a love poem about Wyf Broadskull and Wyf Broadskull submits a love poem about Topaz the Poet, both entries are allowed.

5. Prizes will be awarded both to the winners and to their inspirations. It is my hope that the prizes can be awarded and the poems performed publicly.

The deadline is midnight EST on Friday, February 15. Please feel free to contact me with any questions.

Clarification question: Is it just limited to Eros or is Phila and Agape allowed as well?

What I have in mind for this contest is Eros. However, the other suggestions are good ones for future contests, sponsored either by me or by someone else who wishes to do so. : )

From Raffe (57568) about Fleur (16790)
A triolet

I wish I had a thousand rhymes
To tell you how I feel for Fleur.
And say it twice a thousand times-
I wish I had a thousand rhymes.
But count this here among those crimes;
That lovers sometimes can incur.
I wish I had a thousand rhymes
To tell you how I feel for Fleur.
I'm sorry, I can't hear you over the sound of how awesome I am :D

Nya Lyn #113826 for Valkri Von Strom #145507
(edit to change char#)

The Sun Sonnet

When all has set the sun's farewell to gaze
To feel as if the night has drawn its breath
A sight that sense'd and brought around the days
With touch that tamed and healed a heart bereft.

The spilling spinning circles ever come
An end not found from where it once appeared
Lay perfect and unyeilded by the sum
Today's ecliptic form is one endeared.

And nevermore will I resound to waste
One single instance of this cherished find
Present and purposed' love in all its chaste
The will to bend and break the chained of mind.

You have the dawning glory of this day
The whole and more of mine to you this way.

A Rondeau Redoublé, written for Raffe Rychmin.
(16790 for 57568)

When I am old and time has dimmed my eyes,
You will be there until the very end.
Our life will shine within that last sunrise,
Through signs of age I never did intend.

Your looks will go, and I will not pretend,
Your mind and sword may rust in slow demise,
But my healed heart will always yours defend,
When I am old and time has dimmed my eyes.

I loved you first in Phila’s graceful guise
But then to Eros did our passion wend;
Despite our love invoking such surprise,
You will be there until the very end.

So year by year do hopes and dreams distend;
The dawn will break, but night at last defies
The morn and quenches it with darker trend.
Our life will shine within that last sunrise.

Disfigured truths can cause no mournful sighs;
When both of us are true, our flaws commend.
This love will be a tribute, our reprise,
Through signs of age I never did intend.

This vision of the future must portend
A certainty there will be no goodbyes.
My faith-lined palm in yours, we will ascend
To Cory’s Plane. Forever in the skies,
When I am old.

Can my character do a poem about self eros ? :?
What kind of game would you make?

To Isabelle Dawson 152631
From Gar Windgust 146252

I’ve tried to define it,
to give it a name.
I’ve tried to compare it,
there's nothing the same.
I’ve tried to ignore it,
it won’t go away.
I’ve tried to dissuade it,
it insists that it stay.
I’ve tried to deny it,
like it didn’t exist.
I’ve tried to refuse it,
I just can’t resist.
The closest I’ve come
to working this out.
(I’ve almost found words
to say what it’s about.)
Is to say that I love you,
but that’s not quite enough.
I try to find more words,
it just gets too rough.
So I’ll just say I love you,
and hope that you know.
There's been much more to it,
and much more to go.

*Vardian sits at a desk in the RoK library lost in thought and it is just possible to peep over her shoulder as she writes*

Stolen Moments

I have watched you all this day.
I have watched your eyes move over the page to absorb the secrets that lie within the words.
I have watched your soft lips move, almost imperceptibly, as they ghost the words your eyes have seen.
Did you know they did that as you read?
I have watched your long, smooth fingers caress the sheets between them and your strong but gentle hands cradle the books that hold them.
I have watched them jealously.
I have watched your chest rise and fall as you quietly breathe.
And your throat as it stretches, now and then, as you thoughtfully lift your head - just for a moment.
I wonder what it is that you think - just then.
Coming to some great and worthy conclusion?
Relieving your shoulders unconsciously tense from sitting over your study?
I see your back ripple as you move.
I watch the shadows rise over the day and rest again and every one seems to light your face anew.
I have watched your body relax as it only seems to here.
I have watched you lean back in your chair.
Your legs extend and seem to grow longer with all the grace of some jungle cat.
The pent up strength and evident beauty I am admiring is my joy.
Did you know I was a thief? Did you know I stole so much from you as you work?
Did you know I let my eyes hungrily take you in as far as my soul will allow?
But what a delicious crime.
How great my ill gotten reward.
My punishment? To dream softly and sweetly and to know I love one such as you.
I will risk the chance of getting caught.

For Skyls

No romantic strolls upon the plains
No imagined overtures or sweet refrains
No secret kisses stolen in the night
No tender words of love, desire, delight.

The simple comfort of familiar face.
And open arms that beckon with a warm embrace
Are all the signs this heart will ever need
If that is all the gods above decreed

So does this warrior's beating heart love less
Because some softly whispered words stay unexpressed?
Is love that asks for no return in kind
Less enduring, less intense, less blind?

For love will unconditionally live
No matter what another heart may choose to give.
And if the skein of life demands we part
Then with you, you would take away my heart.

posting for Keldor Spiritlight 141697 to Lucy Gray 128377

All is right in the world again

I hold you in my arms,
All is right in the world again.
I hear your voice feel so charmed
All is right in the world again

I have loved you now through summer's eve
I live each day in the dream we weave
I see laughter in the water
Reflected I see you holding me tighter

The winds blows your hair across your cheeks
All is right in the world again.
I know that your hand is the only one I seek
All is right in the world again.

I loved you now through autumn's falls
When the leaves changed color and surrounded us all
As we laid down in fields and love felt so real
I remember now the magic of how you make me feel

I hold your hand in mine
All is right in the world again.
As I squeeze you do the same in kind
All is right in the world again.

I loved you though winter's breath
I seem to think of the kisses in the frost
Kisses that warmed me and touched my heart
Kisses that a shared soul treasures beyond cost

I look into your eyes and see my destiny
All is right in the world again.
There shines the light of love looking back at me for all eternity
All is right in the world again.

Here we stand in the beginning of spring
I will soon place on your finger a ring that will stay forever
A journey through time and seasons begun
I love you my Lucy, we will forever be one
