*looks around with a light and faintly trembling smile before speaking*

The voices I hear from a land afar
Past spirits fallen, broken and maimed
No more shall those lost be amidst endless spar.
For that cast away has now been reclaimed.

From the faith of two nations new hope takes hold
Anger subsides now as this effort is taken
Past glory reclaimed as in peace we mold
No longer is kinship thought of as forsaken

The way is revealed
There be no code
Each-other we shield
And thus ends my ode.

To Peace

Uncloak the breviate agendas
And speak until you
Pave the span between
Inveterate beliefs
Without prosaic divagates
That cloud your hearts.

Compromise
Should not compromise
Or cover lies . . .
But bless each step that brings you
To a common ground.

Broker your truce
With gentled diligence.

And don’t give up

RHYME ROYAL: THE TAPESTRY

The tapestry of peace was woven so:
Two royal ladies labored at the loom;
the shuttle in their hands went to and fro
in ancient Caer Laleldan's inner room,
and peace and harmony began to bloom
upon that web well woven by their hands
to join the sundered fortunes of their lands.

From Ethucan the Empress brought the word,
and made the darkened Gateway shine anew;
and our two lands with great rejoicing heard
as Queen and Empress spoke of peace, and drew
the threads together, and the weaving grew,
with warp and weft together, well-designed,
by Ethucan and Valorn intertwined.

Cordelia spoke, who reigns from Valorn's throne,
and so confirmed the lovely tapestry.
Not Valorn and not Ethucan alone,
but both our lands were blessed by her decree,
that tangled discord might unravelled be
and then rewoven beautiful and bright,
the dark discarded, leaving only light.

The tapestry of peace is woven thus:
as strong as spider-silk, as fair and fine,
of colors radiant, fair, and marvellous.
There friendship's hue, and honour's, brightly shine,
and glowing threads of godly light divine,
and at its center, welcoming and wide,
the Gateway beckons us from either side.

Written from my alt-Skyelark (92014)

Magic Gateway-What have you brought?

Brightly, does the light from the portal flare,
As upon the clouds sparkles glitter fair,
Declaring to all near that hope is there,
A chance to reach lovely Ethucan.

A land of fragile beauty and peace,
But farther away than lands across the seas,
And more out of my reach than the tallest trees,
Who knew what fairness resided there?

But mighty Empress, of that fair land,
Did come and from our Queen demand,
A treaty, of peace, from Valorn’s hand,
Unity between the two.

And so our Queen, strong in arm and will,
Did so set the Empress at a standstill,
When she did agree to work to fulfill,
The peace between our lands.

Both ladies, regal in the splendor of their nation,
Took heart, and hands, smiling at the cessation
Of the unknown, rejoicing in sharing the formation,
Of the joining of our people.

Fair Ethucan, a delight upon the eyes,
To those in Valorn who do despise,
The fight, the pain which does devise,
To try and break us down.

Take heart, take hope-our friends are near,
For while Balthazar we still must fear,
Our fortunes improve this coming year,
With our open hearts.

Though i write mostly song..i thought i would try my hand at some poetry.

Age of Serenity

The moon has begun to wane
as another day comes to an end
Darkness that is light's bane
envelops both foe and friend.

The land was frought with war and strife
discord was our daily lullaby
Twas for many their only way of life
to hope that an era of peace drew nigh.

Despair began to tug at the heart
of even the noblest amongst us all
Torn asunder and falling apart
still we managed to stand tall.

Coming in amidst a brilliant light
a winged bird descends from above
dispelling the darkness of the night
as to remind us what we are part of.

Verdent forests and rolling hills
crystal blue water as far as one can see.
Men and women of various skills
roam the land ensuring its safety.

Voices now cry out with wild glee
for the long awaited era has come
Everyone now may live free
to the darkness we will never succumb.

For though we have achieved peace
we will always stand ready
our vigilance will never cease
it will be forever strong and steady

Our swords will always be in hand
to ensure that peace may reign
Onwards to make our final stand
and our final goal we shall obtain.

To allow all peoples to know it true
the darkness has gone and all may know
that peace has begun to imbue
and from here on out we can only grow.

So lift your voices strong and high
and shout for all the land to hear
We all now have a twinkle in our eye
for we know we shall persevere.

((I hope this is on time... It's still the 5th April in EST and beyond, so hopefully the forum will clock it as so! Traditional ode, terza rima.))

*a slightly crumpled parchment is laid quietly down*

Ode to Peace

I

Too long has Valorn languished in the dark
With daily fights against her demon foe.
The rage of Balthazar has left its mark
In ravaged land and tears of human woe.
His demon spawn have plundered ev’ry town,
To stir up fear, the hateful rage to sow –
Too many now lose faith and wear a frown
Suspecting that the future will be black;
That never will we lay the weapons down.
We cannot live always under attack,
And must believe that there will come a day
When ‘Good’ renewed will bring us all we lack.
Peace will prevail and no one else will say
That spilling blood can be the only way.

II

There is a door ‘twixt Ethucan and here
Through which we may another country see,
Yet lack of patience and a long-held fear
Had caused fine neighbors thus to disagree.
As gateway closed, each side alone once more,
Black darkness battled on, turmoil set free.
But now a new queen crowned in times of war –
Cordelia, High Queen and child of Deek –
Engraved her name with honor in our lore,
By meeting Empress Muriel to speak
Of common ground and travel once again.
Reopened, we may friends and allies seek
With fervent hopes for our new ruler’s reign;
That it endures and shall not quickly wane.

III

Though peace for us is still a far-off dream,
This treaty is a step towards that goal.
Together we shall be a stalwart team,
Two halves that once enjoined make a full whole.
In streams of silver and in fields of green,
In ev’ry herd, each flock and sparkling shoal,
Through snow and sun, and harvests fat and lean
We make those strides towards a better time.
One new dawn there will be a golden sheen
That lights these countries free of demon grime.
When voices rise in concord to the skies
To praise the gods in prayer, song and rhyme
Then we will be complete and have our prize;
When all is right, and peace o’er Trinald lies.

[color=red][i] Well Hosting a contest, in a word is humbling. Not only were the poems great, but the choice of selecting a winner was extremely difficult .

I would not have been able too give a fair result without the help of a few great people that I will thank now for taking the time to help me .

Thank you to my Judges ...I will keep you all hidden , but again I say thank you

Thank you to all that participated , I look forward to even more of you joining my next contest.

In the end I could not nor they pick a single winner and be fair, so I ended up breaking it into two categories.

One ,â€

Congrats to all the winners. :D

And thanks for the sympathy vote, Ans. My meager poetry were completely blown out of the water, there were some awesome entries. If you ask me, my little lines dont deserve it, meh. =\

On the other hand, I did get first place in the haiku division....
