Create a Pet

Pet's are something that have been requested to be a part of the game for a very long time - something more permanent than the current rent-a-pet.

Here is your challenge:
Design your own pet.

1. Must be specific to your character.
2. Describe the pet to include a name.
3. Describe a common interaction (can be done as a narrative) between your character and their pet.
4. Present the Pro's and Con's of being an adventurer with a pet.
5. You may have 1 entry per character. You may not have multiple pet entries for the same character, but you may enter more than 1 character.

Please do not concentrate on the mechanics of how this might work. Let your imagination guide you, but also be reasonable (no pet dragons or pet unicorns, for example... also no humanoid pets -as that might appear to be more in the realm of slavery - and no BDSM themes. Keep it wholesome, kids).

This contest will run for 14 days and end on October 19, 2023.(If it is October 20 where you live, then you have missed the deadline)

Please post any questions below.

Lavender's Pet

Type: A black fox
Name: Selene
Description: A sleek black fox with a silver tipped tail, and amber colored eyes.
An intelligent and playful fox.
Interactions: Selene occasionally yips playfully at Lavender for attention. Feeling threatened by a passerby the little black and silver fox lets out a low growl. Playfully dances about Lavenders feet. Emote could be: Lavender pets Selene gently. Selene plays tug of war with a rope with Lavender.
Pro's: Never be lonely, always someone to dance and play with.
Con's: If not played with... it could fill a pack with dead mice that it found out of boredom.

While wandering the Canyon simply farming Lavender stumbles upon a fox pup she kneels down and talks the little thing, but it runs and hides. Expecting this she shrugs, then yawns, stopping moving even a few moments reminds her how tired she is, and that she should rest. Deciding to stay here in the canyon she sets up camp. That night leaning against the canyon wall she sings herself a soft lullaby enchanted by the sound of it bouncing around off the canyon walls. She falls asleep and curls up with her quilt there in the canyon. In the morning she finds she is not alone! Snuggled up with her she finds a cute little black fox, its little silver tipped black tail twitching gently while she sleeps. Lavender gently gets up trying not to wake it, and gathers her things, as she does so the pup wakes and starts to wag it's tail at her, it's little tongue hanging out. And of course she can't help but chuckle at the little critter. Gently she tries to shoo the pup trying to get the pup to go home, but it playfully ran around her feet rubbing it's fur on her boots and looking up at her with adoration. Falling for those amber colored eyes she sighed and picked up the pup. Since then she brings the pup with her everywhere, it hides in her pack when she is fighting, popping out to yip at whatever Lavender takes down in taunt perhaps? Lav doesn't know but finds it adorable.

End date updated.
Sorry, Bifrost - Gnomes count as humanoids that are on the no list.
Even very tiny ones.

Aside from no fantastic beasts, are we also restricted to current Trinaldian animals?
No horses, sloths, etc, unless specifically already seen in Trinald?

I totally misunderstood your meaning. I thought you meant humanoids were okay, just as long as we weren't BDSM'ing/enslaving em

Posted for Nuxius (194348)
Smol is a Sabertooth Swamp Rat.
As a kid, Nuxius found a tiny cast-off swamp rat that he cared for and raised. Smol can be seen peeking from Nuxius' front pocket or perched on his shoulder. He's aged considerably, having lived strangely more than the average rat, and over the years has lost his left sabertooth.
Interaction: Nuxius nudges Smol into his shoulder and feeds him good quality food scraps.
Pro: Smol has a keen sense of smell and squeeks to warn of danger.
Con: Aware that Smol sleeps in his front pocket, Nuxius over protects that side in battle.

Argoth (id 32986)
Who the Great Horned Owl
Befriended during Argoth's years as trainer assistant, Who took a liking to the human that fed her the rats disposed of by young adventurers. While her looks makes her appear grumpy and unapproachable, Who's actually a really nice lady.
Interaction: Who turns her head suddenly and inquisitively whenever Argoth asks a question to anyone.
Pros: Makes for a very keen eyed and judging companion during the night.
Cons: Not so much fun during the day. Argoth had to improvise a cumbersome cage-pack to carry Who around while she sleeps.

Falx Monde (id 25249)
Mr. Wiggles the Caterpillar
During the crazy raids on the Remnants of Kimald pumpkin patch, Falx unintentionally befriended a small caterpillar. Hoping it would turn into a butterfly eventually, he took solace in caring for it and keeping it fed and safe. As the cycles passed without any sign of Mr. Wiggles intending to make its cocoon, Falx began to worry and tried some enchantments to help along his small friend. Something went wrong (or right?) however, as Mr. Wiggles began to float slightly. Unfazed by its new airborne powers, Mr. Wiggles remained happily munching away green leaves and listening to Falx's ramblings.
Interaction: Mr. Wiggles wiggles along the air from one of Falx's shoulders to the other.
Pros: Mr. Wiggles enchanted experiments make it lighter than the average caterpillar. For all intents and purposes, it is a wingless beautiful butterfly.
Cons: Falx is constantly worried that an attack may harm Mr. Wiggles, which makes him fight more cauteously.

Turcko (id 21839)
Bob the Acid Blob
During one of his culinary journeys to sample the unknown flavors of Trinald, Turcko found himself deep in the Nrolav Dundee Sewers with his pack filled with seasoned demon wolf steaks and breaded spider legs. Needing to free some pack space, and fill some belly emptiness, Turcko began to eat some of the strange provisions, and initially did not even notice Bob approach. Unlike similar Acid Blobs, Bob was tiny and seemed friendly and quite interested in Turcko's meal, which he timidly shared. From then on, Bob took to follow Turcko around and share his interest in unusual (and often poisonous) meals.
Interaction: Turcko throws Bob the Blob a piece of his food, that slowly sinks into the middle of Bob's body and begins to dissolve. The blob trembles a few times in... glee?
Pros: Portable waste disposal and questionable food quality judge.
Cons: Travelling is slower when Bob is on "foot" and gloves and an extra layered pack are needed when he is carried.

Ivan Monde (id 193355)
Potato the `Dog´
This mid sized bear cannot be mistaken for a dog... To anyone but Ivan. Finding him as a cub, Ivan was delighted to have the puppy he always dreamed of and never got, and wouldn't pay attention to the obvious signs that his `dog´ wouldn't play with other dogs, had alarmingly sharp paws, and kept growing far larger than any dogs had a right to. Being quite smart and docile from his home grown upbringing, at some point even Potato realized something was off. However Ivan took such good care of him that the bear opted to play along and be the best `dog´ he could for his boy.
Interaction 1: Ivan throws a stick into the nearest woods and yells: 'Potato, fetch!' Potato rolls his eyes and lumbers forth, returning a marc later with anything ranging from a tree trunk to a zombie leg.
Interaction 2: Ivan takes out his Islander Model and plays mock up battles with Potato, who ends of feigning a big theatrical defeat at the wooden hands of mighty Islander.
Pros: Fighting side by side with a huge `dog´ adds to Ivan's overall damage output.
Cons: Getting into tighter spaces and dungeons, in particular those with ladders, becomes considerably harder.

Meet Alf's dog, Duke. Growing up on a farm meant chasing away hares and other creatures that would root in the fields.

Alfred Elpin scratches behind Duke's ears, "Who's a good boy?"

Duke's entire backside shakes back and forth in excitement as Alfred Elpin waves a stick in the air.

Alfred Elpin points out a weak spot in the creature's defenses and Duke strikes for the final blow.

Pros:
1. Scooter has a friend to play with!
2. There's another good boy for others to play with!
3. As an Adventurer with a pet, a major pro is having someone alongside you on those long training sessions or to help keep watch when out in the wilds and otherwise alone.

Cons:
1. Care and concern for a pet in the heat of battle can lead to more trips to the monument!
2. Making sure the pet is maintained, fed, and gets plenty of exercise is time-consuming. Sometimes that means missing out on events, sometimes that means having to leave mid-event to take the pet out for a bathroom break.
3. Speaking of bathroom breaks! Having a pet that may not be potty-trained can lead to embarrassing moments when inside!

Brisingr (char #115695)

Rana the Frog: While dealing with the pumpkin patch a variety of different animals assaulted the patch. One of which was a giant frog that nearly ate Brisingr. After the frog left a small pool of water was left in its wake that housed a small tadpole. Instead of letting the tadpole be left to fend for itself he gave the critter a home.

He lovingly named the frog Rana.

Description: A green tree frog who loves to bounce from shoulder to shoulder. Rana has been known to play around in his bag of powder or sleep in his robe pocket.

Makes noises when hungry.

Interactions: Rana hops from shoulder to shoulder using the top of Brisingr's head. Rana makes a deep noise when hungry.

Pro's: Keeps the enchanter company and is a good reminder of the encounter with the giant frog.

Con's: A reminder of the encounter with the giant frog. He has to keep his hands washed after handling the frog.

Image

Roseden (char # 164909)

Helios the Red Fox: While wandering through the Dark Forest Roseden came across a set of traps set but none of them appeared to be sprung. The bandits that call this forest their home base must be behind these was where his mind wandered before being pulled back into the here and now by the sounds of a fox whimpering, and thus he follows the sound and comes across a Red Fox that had sprung one of the traps. After freeing the trapped animal he made noises to scare off the poor critter, but instead it stayed at his side and followed his every footstep and so he decided to keep the animal he now lovingly calls ‘Helios’.

Description: Helios presents himself before you with crimson red fur. Across his eyes his fur is black as if wearing a mask while his feet are given the same treatment as if wearing leggings. His tail gives the impression of a quill dipped in ink.

Often seen riding on the shoulders of his owner with his long tail draped around like a shawl.

Relaxed and calm in nature.

Interactions: Helios brushes his muzzle against Roseden’s neck for attention. Roseden scratches behind Helios’s ear and emits what one might call a happy noise.

Pro’s: Fashionable neck accessory and a loyal companion.

Con’s: Clashes with certain outfits and brings dead critters as a present.

Firenze the Rabbit - Firenze is a white rabbit with pink eyes. Evidently well-loved, his fur is brushed and fluffy. He wears a handsome collar of blue velvet.

Firenze was obtained back when Jobe was attempting to woo Lathai; Jobe sent Firenze as a gift and peace offering after a disagreement. Firenze the Rabbit was later adopted by the Murder of Crows acting troupe, where he serves as a theatre critic to this day.

Emotes:

Jobe Thaniel Steward pets the indifferent rabbit.

Jobe Thaniel Steward carries Firenze - his paws are too posh to pace!

Jobe Thaniel Steward confers with Firenze - Firenze provides a scathingly assiduous critique of the room!

Jobe Thaniel Steward fusses Firenze - Firenze squeaks! That bun is pure unadulterated sass.

Cons
1. White fur all over your nice clothes.
2. Sassy rabbit.

Pros
1. Highly portable.
2. He is my son.

Name: Maestro
Species: Crow

Maestro is a large bird. Much like his employer, he is inky and somber; with glossy, oil-spill feathers and clever, beady eyes.

Having earned the trust of his handsome companion by virtue of tenacious effort—owed to a prolonged and routine exchange of pleasant gestures accompanied by varied, edible offerings—Threne and Maestro now share a unique and impenetrable bond.

Pros: Extremely intelligent; taught to fetch a miscellany of valued objects (trinkets, gems, the occasional coin), and act as personal courier. Frequent companionship. Ride or die. Dangerously sharp beak, apt for blinding the enemy.
Cons: Found occasionally unsettling; bad omen. Not fully tamed, and thus takes occasional and unannounced leave of absence. Painfully digging claws.

Maestro alights upon Threne’s shoulder and crows a sharp greeting.

Maestro mimics the speech of someone nearby with unsettling accuracy.

Maestro delivers Threne a shiny trinket and pivots his plumed head in expectation of reward.

Threne dips his hand into a pouch to retrieve a selection of nuts, and submits this offering to Maestro upon open palm.

1) Can different players use the same animal, i.e., can there be more than one adventurer with the same animal?
1a) Is a raven the same as a crow?

2) Do I remember correctly that hawks and falcons are allowed?

Thank you,

Samson / Sammo
Feline / Family Felidae

A massive mackerel tabby with curly, over-sized lynx tips and golden-green eyes, Samson also sports several extra toes - which come in useful when vermin are scurrying afoot. A long floofy tail flicks often in demand of foodstuffs and his purr is soft and soothing. One cuddle with this burly boy and the tension seemingly melts away - if he doesn’t inadvertently stifle you with love and biscuits.

Sammo flaunts a long braided beard he is quite cavalier over - often seen grooming it into purr-fection. Around his neck shines a studded leather collar with ‘Samson’ etched upon a crescent moon vile containing salves and other apothecary herbs.

Pro: keeps vermin away / cuddle-love / medicinal item storage

Con: takes too many naps / vainglory / chance of being cuddle-crushed by his love.
