Winter's Warming - The Giving Tree 2023 (That rhymes!)

Postby Bifrost Janger » Tue Jan 24, 2023 6:52 pm

Upon The Plains, there stands a tree, rather an ordinary tree except that some miscreant has decorated it with old bronze nuts and bolts and tangles of colourful yarn. A few tags of parchment, scrawled with script are secured to it's branches with string.

A bucket on the ground is filled with similar tags and a decent stack of charcoal sticks for writing. A notice pegged into the ground reads:

Take a tag and make a wish,
So another Adventurer might assist.
For Winter's Warming is a time for giving,
Help one another by doing their bidding.

(Giving Tree 2022.)

(Previous Giving Trees for those who'd like inspo.)
Fear is a strange soil. It grows obedience like corn, which grow in straight lines to make weeding easier. But sometimes it grows the potatoes of defiance, which flourish underground. - Terry Pratchett

I would LOVE to have my last portal spell, which would be for Milltown. Not sure how that could happen, but that is my one and only wish.
~Frohste

Thank you to so many of my friends who scared up blues for me to try to get my last spell! Especially Rhalia who spent countless hours wandering the spider caves! Frohste FINALLY got her last portal spell after five long years of hunting spiders! <3 <3 <3

I wish Morris could have a special weapon made just for him.

This tag is smudged with dirt and the writing is rubbed faint in areas.

It is my wish that any with good stores of seed would be willing to spare some. No hurry. Spring time is not yet upon us.

All I want is for as many adventurers as possible to give me a great big bear hug this Winter’s Warming.

A note, written in a poor forgery of Bo's handwriting.

A pet for Bris, preferably one that will not eat him. Must be Hall Trained and if at all possible, cuddly. - Signed, Bo Bonnie

this tag has a few scribbles on the back
Wish we had an easier way to gain invasion ingots and weapon primitives and the crystals that go with them outside of raids

After a conversation with Lavender she thought it would be neat to maybe have a quest type thing that perhaps those of I'd say starting at 50 could do to get random things from a machine like the rogue quest. But for this one.. could be burnt unusable ingots... broken shards of weapon primitives along with good ones to use! lol Or perhaps the machine under the wall could randomly hand them out along with the scrolls...

I usually just let these things done by players play out by themselves.
However, after seeing many of the ‘wishes’ I feel like a reminder is in order - these are things you are wishing your fellow adventurers might fulfill.

So if you are wishing for something in the world to change in a large scale or something that obviously requires divine intervention, you are wasting both your time writing it and the intent of goodwill between your fellows.

Good luck and I always enjoy seeing the creative ways people fulfill each other’s wishes. You’ll be surprised what your friends come up with when they know there is something you want.

Thank you Magistra for that reminder, and my apologies for my unreasonable request. I have amended my Winter’s Warming wish accordingly.

Gathers up last tag and rips it up, then pins a new tag to the tree

I wish everyone would do an act or random kindness and ask in return that it is payed forward.

A BIG vacation to Ethucan or Kilican along with lots of other adventurers. Must be willing to spend a turn or two for some wintertime 'riftershine - Bo Bonnie

For people to remember that comradeship and kindness isn't just for Winter's Warming ... and more fun inn nights, together! There isn't a lot that can't be solved by coming together over an ale!

A rolled up list, too long for a mere tag, tied upon a branch.

Aria's List
A kitchen of my own
A meal with everyone around a big table and we will argue and tease and all talk over each other.
A date, a real date. With flowers.
To see a play on a stage
Learn how to skate on the ice.
A bathtub that fills itself or someone willing to haul hot water
To see a monkey
A sewing kit for mending
A way to keep caterpillars from becoming butterflies
A bigger home for Cappy
My family
