Talk to the Pumpkins

Postby Bo Bonnie » Wed Sep 21, 2022 9:34 pm

Does talking to plants really help them to grow?

Find out with RoK!

Bring your songs, tales, poetry or what have you to the pumpkin patch to share with your gourds, and your chums!

When? Where?!
RoK hall - Pumpkin Patch
Friday 30th September
9pm UK time
4pm EST

Have a tale in your heart and won't be able to make it? Never fear! Just post it in this thread for our enjoyment and we'll past it on to the plants.
And above all, watch with glittering eyes the whole world around you because the greatest secrets are always hidden in the most unlikely places. Those who don't believe in magic will never find it. - Roald Dahl

Written for, and presented at, the event -

‘Ode to a Pumpkin’

Oh pumpkins, dear pumpkins, with sweet flesh and smooth skins
Of all things that grow you’re the best.
We want you and need you – we promise to feed you
From now ‘til it comes to FallFest.

You’ll take place of honour (though you might be a goner!)
As foodstuff or lantern in hand.
To lighten festivity you’ll show your proclivity
To shine brightest of all in the land.

Oh wormies, oh wormies, you horrible squirmies
We beg ‘Leave our efforts alone!’
You’ve tunnelled on by, made some of us die -
Why not give up? Just go on back home!

Dark crows, jumping rabbits, we spotted your habits
Of gnawing away at our work.
We’ve faced poachers and frogs – most anything ‘cept dogs
Our duty to guard we won’t shirk.

So hear us dear pumpkins. We’re no country bumpkins,
We’re learning to raise you aright.
We tend you, protect you. Should ill detect you
We’ll be here to put up a fight.

It’s no troublesome task – in return all we ask
Is that you will grow plump and true.
In turns soon to come amidst all the fun
We’ll be spending our time praising you.

The joke is on the bloke who never spoke a word at all
But whose dreams lay unrevealed 'til they were rotten ...

A series of haikus recited at the Pumpkin Event

Oh dear lil' pumpkins
Hear this ol' country bumpkin
As stories are told

First were zombied crows
next herds of bunnies afoot
then caterpillars

flocks of seagulls, too
pesky poachers came to theive
then, moose, meese, moosen?

Squirrels - you scug thugs you
finally, those parasites
the helminth below

we fought, died, and tried
to keep you safe from all harm
and here you remain

Oh dear lil' pumpkins
Hear this ol' country bumpkin
As stories are told
Warrior by the hand of Topaz, mint farmer by birth.
