Breakers roll – oh! What a sight
‘neath Rifter’s rays or moon by night
Meeting rock or sandy shore
From birth of time, and ever more.
A cooling dip in balmy seas
When daytime heat’s too much to please.
Or a bracing plunge when air is cold -
Done by the foolhardy, or the bold!
The water’s edge, the heady view,
Enjoy it best when there are two
Share the joy of briny foam
Then, filled with treats and love, stroll home
Thunder of water striking stone
Carving shapes at first unknown
A dragon’s skull, an inn, a bear
How many things do you see there?
In quieter run of wavelets small,
Wade and splash. Hear seabirds call
One to another through the day
Their eyes fixed on the lovers at play
Visit the pub, watch the ocean wide
Like the strength of defenders, it will abide.
Stay and watch, as you nurse your drink
The sight, in solitude, gives pause to think.
Time, the lands, and love – all three
Eternal as the mighty sea.
The joke is on the bloke who never spoke a word at all
But whose dreams lay unrevealed 'til they were rotten ...
