An enigma, wrapped in mystery, surrounded by an air of malevolent evil. That is all we know of Abeyde. He comes, and he goes – and all in accordance with some scheme known only to whatever twisted mind lies within that foreboding figure.
Should you meet, he may ignore or taunt you. He might send you to the Life Monument. Worse, he might slay you and bring you back as some shambling undead creature, or send you to the judgement plane. But make no mistake – whatever his actions, your interests are far from his thoughts. I was able, on one occasion, to pass through one of his portals to see the other side. I dared not tarry long, fearful that the flickering gateway might close at any moment. But that brief glimpse was enough to perhaps show me his vision of how he would see our lands.
He will appear as he wishes, and leave as he chooses. Some turn we will find a way to stop him. We all look forward to that future time. In the meantime we watch and wait. And as ever we fight for freedom and survival - not only for ourselves but also for those who will follow in our footsteps.
Until then, with a swirl of his cape he leaves us surrounded by chaos and swarms of the undead, and the lingering thought ‘Why?’
The joke is on the bloke who never spoke a word at all
But whose dreams lay unrevealed 'til they were rotten ...
