Historical Society of Valorn contest

Postby Miranda of Admin » Sat Oct 11, 2014 10:44 am

The HSV are proud to sponsor a contest in the run-up to Fall Festival. They are looking to expand their range of historical tomes, and are looking for the next in the series: HSV Tome of Milltown.

If you would like to become an HSV-endorsed author, you should write up your Tome and send it in addressed to 'HSV Tome of Milltown Contest' at [email protected].
The package should arrive there before Fall Festival begins on October 22nd. One will be chosen to appear in print, and other small prizes may be forthcoming.

This is an exercise in creativity and historical fact finding (see rule 5 below.)

The Rules
1. Enter by October 22nd 2014
2. One entry per player, not per character
3. Look at the other tomes, if you wish, for inspiration -- but do not feel bound by their style.
4. Max length: 500 words
5. What you include is up to you. City history, businesses, notable buildings and inhabitants... the choice is yours. You are NOT limited to facts in game history, so you can be creative and breathe life into the town. However, nothing you write should contradict anything that is already established in game.
6. Editing rights are reserved.

I've had someone judge these anonymously and their opinion mirrors mine; there are two entries in particular we like but we want to combine the ideas in them into one piece. Before I announce winners, if you entered this contest... please email me again if you do NOT want to have your work combined with someone else. If you do, we'll reconsider.

Thank you for your patience with this. The standard of entries was very high, which is brilliant.

The other judge (and I) have agreed that we would like to combine the work of two players, because both had moments of absolute excellence and also complement each other well.

Well done to Skyelark Novus and Hojo Musachi. An edited version of your work will appear in print soon. All who participated will receive a small thank you gift as well.

Thanks again for the contest! :D

Cool. Miranda had posted that all who entered would receive a small thank you gift as well. Is this still part of the deal and stuff now that the book is released? Just curious. :P

We're currently digging through our emails trying to find all the entrants, but yes, they can expect a small gift.

*stops her frantic searching for said tome, narrows her eyes speculatively* Hmmm by in the game, do you mean in a place we can reach yet? Or am I just blind?

I was not able to find this either, Viv, but I did find another amazing book that you mentioned in the Rave section.

Four documents were added to the game yesterday, three of which are town-based tomes. In due time the tomes at least will all find their way into the Caer Laleldan library but for now these new editions can be found in the towns which they describe.

I think you might've found all four already Viv. Dimitri told you two of the town based ones, there's the one that Zanaan told me he told you, and then the one you told Dimitri about ;)
