Contest: The Written Word

Postby Jane of Admin » Tue Jun 11, 2013 6:20 pm

You have up to 300 words to share a story, piece of history, verse, or another creative written endeavor with admin. These must fit within the game world and game history as is currently known. It must be your own work.

Please recall the game is in beta. Even if you played during an event years ago, it may no longer be part of the history of the game world. Changes have occurred.

Winning pieces will be rewarded with an in game presence. We reserve the right to edit as needed.

Specific rules for submitting a piece:
Email your piece to: [email protected]
In the subject line put Word Entry and the [title of your entry]
In the body of the message begin with “This is submitted on behalf of [character name & link]”
Follow it with the piece itself.
Nothing else is needed. Do not explain the piece, apologize for the piece, or anything else. The submission should speak for itself.

Do not post your entries here. You may only submit one entry per character.

The deadline date is June 27, and we look forward to some interesting entries.

This thread is now reserved as a place for individuals to ask questions about the contest itself if something has been left unclear.

Firstly, horay, a new contest.

Secondly a question; can the entry use a story, poem etc already posted on a forum, blog etc? (obviously not copying someone elses work)

Thanks

It may use something you have previously written - as long as it was not posted somewhere else where potential DG use would impact copyright.

I have a question. When you say "fit into game world" does that mean only in Trinald or would stories that are within the game style be acceptable stories ? Obviously no cell phones or computers or tanning booths - but for example can we tell a tale of a story our character was told or created that is proper for DG story telling but involves made up creatures/lands/characters like we do during the tale telling events?

I just wanted to be 100% clear before I have a go at this. Thank you kindly. :)

You may choose to do that if it is your wish. You have 300 words with which to write and to make clear what type of story or writing you're doing.

I have a question, considering the nature of this contest is it considered validated to have something completely fabricated as long as no current histories are imposed upon, nor involving the use of NPC's but still be within 'The Game World'? (In retrospect its probably the same Question that Ellyana asked but I wished to clear it up for myself.)

Based on what it appears you are asking - you may choose to do this.

Would it be okay once we send a submission to also use this topic to note that we sent an email submission just in case gmail eats it as spam, etc?
Thanks.

No. If you have concerns about that, you may send a board message stating the fact that you submitted a piece.

This contest is now ended.
In part, due to the volume and nature of entries, these will take some time to judge and decide on.

When it is complete, announcements will be made.

Thanks to Historical Society of Valorn's tireless work, winning volumes from this contest have been placed in the Caer Laleldan Reference Library. Copies of those books have been given to their authors.

These books may be held in the shield hand and are undroppable.

Thank you all for your participation; it is administration's hope to make this the start of occasional game contests like this.

Thank you for a fun contest. I enjoyed the chance to read other people's works and see them in game.
