Thankful Contest

Surely in all the land you have something to be thankful about (that you want to share and that is in character and follows all game rules )

In poetry, prose, or art, submit an entry explaining what that might be.
It could be serious, humorous or somewhere in between.

Due by: Dec 1, 11:59 pm EST (I'm still not sure which day midnight refers to - how sad!)

What: any form of artistic expression that can be posted on the board. Must be work fully original to you.

One entry per player please. Include your character number.

Prizes: stat mod scrolls, blank amulet of the order, treasure box, light +1 scroll, plat or potions.

To the gods I am thankful, for the world of which they made,
I am thankful of the air and the sunrifters rays
thankful am I of the beast that leave many things for me
and of the smiths with their armor and swords of such variety
Thankful am I for a healing hand, and the many adventures
that travel through the land.

I am thankful for enchanters whos spells can light the night
for the warrior who swings their swords with such a magnificent might
I am thankful for the rogue whose sneeky ways have helped me though,
And I am thankful for the clerics for everything they do
I am thankful that the last who's calling I did heed,
I like to help help those I can that pass by in need.
And I am even thanful for the initiate who
strangely, at one time I was one too.

So many things to be thankful for
this list is just a few.
So you all know what I am thankful for,
and this makes me wonder what about all of you?

When I think of what I am thankful for, mentors come to mind immediately. Mine in particular, but also in a general sense. As an Initiate, I asked many questions. As a Rogue, I asked for more than just answers. And I would say I got more than I hoped for.

I began my adventures just hoping I'd make some friends. But then I learned that among defenders of Valorn, all I had to do was ask and I'd get material and emotional support with no strings attached. I learned that people are more than their professions, and that the gift of a profession is empowering and precious. And I discovered the joy of giving that gift to others.

As a final note, I am grateful to those mentors who actively help new Initiates. It is because of people like you that I and others had an easier time advancing when money was hard to come by and the lands difficult to navigate. Indeed, it is because of mentors that I am who I am, and the reason I remained and grew in skill. Cheers.

What can I say that I'm thankful for, that hasn't already been covered? That being said, while sitting and thinking on it, an idea called out to me.

This year what I am most thankful for,
Is the man with the never ending chore.
Special robes are the mark of his job,
Kept nice and neat, he's no slob.
Brown are his boots, and blonde is his hair,
The whole of Trinald is under his care.
With a tricorn hat upon his head,
Hard does he work, you're never misled.
The World Crier is the one of which I speak,
Without him, our world would be bleak.
Always crying, never lying,
A powerful voice he is plying.
To warn us of the dangers about,
To his job he is devout.
So this year I want to thank him,
My chances in person are slim.
So it's my hope this he will see,
And happy he will be.
Here's to you, Mister World Crier,
I hope you never tire!

Not much for poetry so here is something different and I hope it fits the rules of the contest:

As the day draws to a close, clouds closing in, I drag myself into Dundee Inn taking a seat near Tyral listening to his gossip while giving Scooter a gentle pat. I gaze over and see Jeffery cleaning behind the bar.

Suddenly I hear my name called from across the room welcoming me. My reply soon comes and I join in a friendly discussion, listen to a tale or perchance share one, or mayhap an encouraging message is given or recieved.

Soon the ‘rifter rises, parting the clouds to start a new day reminding me of the ever watchful gods and their hand in this world.

THE GIFT OF A GUILD

Glad am I for godly blessings,
blessings like stars, many and bright:
bright rejoicings, bliss in the morning,
morning Criers when all is well.

Well-fought raids with a worthy sword,
sword-companions, victory-brothers,
brothers and sisters sworn in one guild:
guild-bound blessings, best of all.

All my kin are gathered together,
together a wall of shining shields,
shields for each other, shield of Valorn:
Valorn's defense our promised oath,

oath of wall and roof and hearth,
hearth where kinsmen take their rest,
rest in chamber, shrine or tower --
tower of strength throughout the land.

Land of Valorn, hear this song,
song of many notes made one,
one dear guild that makes me glad:
glad am I for godly blessings.
