Copyright Rules

Postby Miranda of Admin » Mon Jul 27, 2009 1:38 pm

An official reminder that there are some things that are not allowed as they break copyright (or as Ben used to put it more bluntly, STEALING. See here http://forums.darkgrimoire.com/viewtopic.php?f=20&t=8246 for his illuminating examples of copyright breaches.) Just as he stated then, guilds can be destroyed for doing so.

1. Do not post screen shots from the game anywhere other than our own forum, here. That includes guild forums.

2. Do not copy item descriptions, NPC descriptions, place descriptions, or even your own profile descriptions on any other website. (See Ben's post again, mentioned above.)

3. Do not post copy/paste of conversations on any other website.

Paraphrasing, or summarizing content from DG in your own words, is acceptable. Taking something and only altering it slightly is not acceptable. One more, please see Ben's post for good examples.

One exception that I will accept, at the moment, is people posting copy / paste or a screenshot of their character page for purposes of guild application. However, as people now have multiple accounts, this doesn't really prove that your applicant has no character in another guild, so it's kind of redundant.

For further clarification:

Once it happens in game, with interaction from others, you may not cut and paste what occurs on other websites. If you have worked on something in advance and want to post it, or you want to post a summary of what happens, that is acceptable. You may even quote an excerpt or two.

But you may not directly copy the interactions.

Some examples:
Laylor leads a service praising the bears and wolves for giving up their skins. The player summarizes what occurred at the service with a few direct quotes and posts it on a guild board.
Acceptable.

Laylor's friend, not realizing what Laylor is doing, copies the service and replicates it on a guild board.
Unacceptable.

Travin performs a history of the Gremlin Wars in front of an adoring crowd. Travin later writes up the history (or has written it already) and posts it to a guild board.
Acceptable.

Travin enjoys the performance so much that he includes the emotes and input from the audience - as they happened.
Unacceptable.
