Guild Probation

Postby Ben » Sun May 14, 2006 6:26 pm

Guilds exist to nurture a relationship with newer players and to help them become a part of the community... and basically to stay in Valorn. Guilds that mass recruit young members who soon quit the game are not serving the greater good, and are, in fact, possibly making the game lose players who might otherwise level up and keep playing if they were in a more supporting guild environment. In this thread I will post any guilds that are put on probation, for this reason or for another reason... guilds that are completely inactive, guilds that are cheating, guilds that are participating in mass harrassment or have several members who are participating in mass harrassment, etc.

I struggled a bit with the idea of making probation public or private, but since guild participation is so closely linked to game success, I felt it was fair to give players a place to go look up to see if the guild they are in is on probation. Keeping the process secret might result in people joining a guild that was about to die.

That being said, being on probation does not mean your guild is going to die... it just means you need to change your habits and tactics if you want to continue being a guild in Valorn. If a guild does not solve the problems laid out in their probation, the guild will be disbanded and all members will become guildless. The guild hall will be destroyed, and all points will be lost as the guild will not exist anymore. This will allow the members of that guild to disperse to more successful, long-term guilds.

Once again... guilds are YOUR creation, to be run as you see fit, but if they are being run in a way that hurts the overall game, the guild will be destroyed. Hopefully this thread will serve as a system for getting some of the guilds leaning toward "troubled" status to change their tactics and become more useful members of Valornian society.

GUILD: Order of the Silver Wolf
REASON FOR PROBATION: Massive recruitment of noobs who then quit the game soon after for lack of support structure.

STATISTICS:

You have 58 total members...
42 of which are under level fifteen. Only 16 are level fifteen+.

Of those 42 members under level fifteen, only 10 have even moved once this month (May).

There are 22 members who are level 8 or less (real n00bs)... of those, only 4 have played DG at all in the last month (since April 14).

This shows you are actively recruiting brand new players, 80% of which (approx) end up quitting the game soon afterward.

INSTRUCTIONS:

Your guild has a good core group of higher level characters who are active, but you are actively recruiting and then somehow chasing off an extremely large group of new players to Dark Grimoire. Chasing off new players is not an activity we can condone. Over the course of the next month, you are instructed to increase the number of players you have over level 15 while you AVOID increasing the number of players you have that are under level 15. You can do this by either recruiting players who are over level 15, or by encouraging your current players who are under level 15 to play enough to level past 15. You can also recruit players who are under level 15, but you should do so only with players who you know will be active and will continue to play and level up before a month passes.

Furthermore, the current members of your guild that are under level 15 should still be active, even if they have not managed to level past 15.

At the end of a month, the same statistics will be looked at again to see if there is improvement.

GUILD: Order of the Silver Wolf
REVISITING CHECKUP: here are the results after one month of (hopeful) work on the suggestions in your guild's last post. Old stats are in quote format, with new results immediately after.

You have 58 total members...
42 of which are under level fifteen. Only 16 are level fifteen+.

You now have 64 total members...
44 are under level fifteen. 20 are level fifteen+.

Of those 42 members under level fifteen, only 10 have even moved once this month (May).

Of those 44 under level fifteen, 11 have moved this month (June).

There are 22 members who are level 8 or less (real n00bs)... of those, only 4 have played DG at all in the last month (since April 14).

You now have 20 members who are level 8 or less. 3 have played at all in the last month.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Overall, the guild improved its numbers of active players and non-noob players. While not a huge leap, I believe this shows a step in the right direction. You are off probation, but I will be informally checking up to make sure that the progress this guild has made continues even though it is not on probation. THE MOST IMPORTANT IMPROVEMENT you made is you do not seem to have any new players under level 8 who are inactive... which means you are no longer recruiting brand new players and then having them quit the game. This is what I was most concerned with.
Good work and please keep up the progress... if you do, I believe you will turn out to be a fine, well-organized, and powerful guild. If you do not, you will be back on here. =)
-RESULT: NO MORE PROBATION
