Kammeron is somewhat retiring. He will still be an NPC, but there will be no need to mob him asking for ph8t l00t anymore. He will exist to create custom works for exceptional people in exceptional circumstances, but will not be creating items for money.

I've never liked the concept of using platinum (which is, quite frankly, easy to come by once you get to a certain level) to get better than quest-grade items. With the addition of the golden age machine that can help upgrade normal weapons, as well as a soon-to-be increase in contest prizes, such as the Order of Norton prizes, we have other, better avenues to use in delivering uniqueish items to the masses.
