The XP System

Postby Ben » Sun May 30, 2004 11:00 pm

This is a bit complicated. =)

First of all, the entire XP chart has been changed so people should not have to kill dozens of creatures to get a % anymore.

There are some limitations, though, to keep our most intensive hunters from levelling TOO fast

1) you only get XP for hunting creatures your level or up to 3 below. You also get XP from hunting creatures above your level, but no more than you would get from killing a creature your level. If you hunt something that is 4 levels below you or more, you will get no XP for the fight.

2) You can only level up once every 24 hours. You can still keep gaining experience, but the trainers will refuse to train you and improve your attack/ac/etc until the amount of time has passed. This only applies to people starting at level 10... before level 10, you can level as many times as you want.

XP is based on the % of the monsters health you took down. This will allow groups to fight monsters together to take them down easier. If two people fight a monster, one person does 60% of the damage, and another person does 40%, they will get those corresponding amounts of the XP for a creature that level.

Also, remember that if you are in a battle, retreat to heal, and then go back and finish the monster, you will NOT get XP for the damage you did before the retreat. You must stay in battle to get the full XP for the amount of damage you did.

SO, if two people go into battle, one person does 40% and then retreats, another person does 40% and stays in, and the first person comes back and finishes the monster off (the remaining 20%), the first person will get 20% of the XP and the second will get 40% of the XP, as the 40% the first person took will not count because that person retreated.

These changes should even everything out. In the old system, people used to level up to around 17 or 18 in just a week or two, and then from 20-30 took a week for each level, and from 30-40 took a month or more for each level. This was frustrating for those at a high level, and too easy for those at low levels. This new system will keep things more balanced, and you will find yourself levelling at a MUCH more steady rate as long as you stay in Valorn.

Remember, DG is not a game you beat... it is a fantasy world to roleplay in. The XP system reflects this.
