The Raid on Ryndall: Opening of N'rolav

Postby Cerberus » Wed Dec 05, 2007 8:55 pm

In answer to the discovery of N'rolav asked in GC (can't post this in history of valorn unfortunately):

"Long ago, Ryndall was a much more elusive city to get to. In fact, few if any but the most esteemed of enchanters could travel there. However, it seemed the Enchanters had set up other measures to ensure their brothers a safe return home for loss of powder or some such. A wary traveler had ventured upon a great dark tree in the Dark Forest... and as typical of many adventurers style of hunt retranced his steps back and forth... west, east, west, east... however, each stride seemed to move him away from where he last stood. In fact, by his last stride the dark tree was gone and he stood at the gates of Ryndall.

This magical passage was widely used for some time by many adventurers after it was discovered, but perhaps it did not go unnoticed by Baltazar's minions, as well. For, a great raid, of proportions never seen before was set upon Ryndall, adventurers rushed to the scene, but Balthazar himself was leading his forces and could not be stopped. He sacked the city, and his minions drove out the enchanters. They fled to a new home in the Endless Desert, starting a new township of Ryndall, but the west, east, west, east passage continued to take feckless adventurers to the occupied city of old Ryndall, where they often met a terrible end.

A years time passed or so it seemed before the enchanters and other adventurers managed to muster the forces to attempt to retake old Ryndall, another great battle ensued... many lost life and limb, but the in the end the enchanters prevailed as Balthazar was not there to lead the occupying demon army and they were slain, one and all. Settled again in their home, the enchanters attempted to close the west, east, west, east passage to Rynall... focusing all their powers on their work they managed to shift the portal away from their magical city, but Balthazar had tainted the passage and where they sought to close the passage once and for all, instead they opened a passage to a far more dangerous land... N'rolav."

If any others remember the time well enough or would like to edit this passage, so we can have a better account, copy edit and repost please :) Wiki-style!
