More Songs for Valornians

Postby Fleur » Sun Aug 13, 2006 3:15 pm

I've shifted over to here, as it seems to be a more fitting forum than the social hall.

Haleth

Love divine be still and search no longer
For thou hast found a home in fairest Haleth.
A restful peace she leaves wherever she goes
A gentle soul for love is all the stronger.
Her silver thread binds soul and heart together;
With a purity more than diamond-shine glows.
In the Way of the Just she finds a home and hearth,
Such a rare and precious gem they do protect!
Somewhat stubborn, she defends what she believes
… and she believes in truth and peace and Raffe.
With patience she did love weave in a dress,
Her heart tied blessed strings from hem to sleeves;
This act and others have raised her into lore.
She’s not oft easy to find for conversation
But when you do, her green eyes soothe your soul
And heal you with the wisdom therein, and more.
The kindness, sweetness, gentle humour that is she
Can calm a troubled mind and make you whole.

Forgive this appearing twice on the forum, but I thought I should home it in this thread. Written for the Goddess Carol, as an answer to her 'favorite colour' contest, although not completed in time. It still stands as a fitting monument to her.

The colour of leaves
For Carol

What of greater beauty can be seen
Than spring-time leaves in baby green
That nestle buds of silken treasure
To burst in bloom at season’s leisure.
Then darkens leaf to shades of jade
O’er which the sun-sweet dance is played
As Summer unfolds, if given time
So doth the leaves in emerald, lime.
But each season passes in its turn
And foliage then the green will spurn
To deck itself in riotous gold
Burnished coppers, crimsons bold.
And then as startling as they came
Nought remains, safe cold wood grain.
For all must end, at Winter’s kiss;
Leaves vanish, have no doubt of this.
But if one waits and patient stays
By goddess’ grace are new spring days
Delighting all who in redemption believe,
The faithful purity, the colour of leaves.

Summer Rain

Postby kitwritten » Wed Aug 30, 2006 1:05 pm

Summer Rain
Watching the clouds as they flow through my fingers
I stop every now and then to let the rain drops linger
It's kind of crazy and kind of insane
But somehow I've falled in love with Summer Rain

Talking goes miles and lookings okay
But over hair styles I prefer what she'd say
It makes no sense but I sure won't complain
Cause I'm always falling in love with Summer Rain

So many things that I want to know
Like can freeze up and become Winter Snow
So many things that I'd like to tell
Like the times I've risen up and the times that I fell

Watching the clouds as they flow through my fingers
I stop every now and then to let the raindrops linger
It's some kind of crazy and kind of insane
But somehow I've fallen in love with Summer Rain

True Love

Postby Fleur » Mon Oct 16, 2006 10:51 am

True Love

He stopped in the inn as if the arrow of love
Had pierced his very heart
Her twinkling eyes and merry mouth
Were themselves a work of art.
Ordering ale and unarming himself
He found himself a seat
But the joyful maid had fallen asleep,
Lost in dreams so sweet.
He watched her there, the rise and fall
Of her creamy rounded pair
And decided that she would be his wife,
He'd court her with such flair.
When the lady awoke and wiped the drool
From perfect rosebud lips
He leaned to her and whispered sincere
Compliments and questing tips.
Her eyes were wide with gratitude
Especially for the ale
So when he spake the fateful words
Her cheeks turned suitably pale.
"Will you bond with me, my darling girl,
(What was your name again?)
And I will be the happiest man
To walk o'er Valorn's vales!"
She crimsoned then and nodded yes
And so the troth was plighted
As luck would have it a passing cleric
Performed the ceremony, delighted!
There they were then, man and wife
Before the marc was through,
They exchanged a kiss and fell asleep
To well-wishes from all they knew.
At last they woke, but what was this?
They had little left to say,
And so their beautiful sacred vows
Lasted little more than a day.
But lo, another maiden trembling waits
For a man to make her whole
So why worry over a bonding split so soon,
There’s more fish in the sea. A shoal!
And so we look with indulgent eye
Upon this moral waste
We kill with such ease and love more so
But don’t we bond in haste?

While in the Dundee Inn recently, the conversation turned to the subject of children's songs. Someone suggested I write a lullaby. But what I actually dredged up, from childhood memories I haven't thought of in ages, was a(nother) counting song (or a jumping-rope song):

It can be sung by adapting an old folk song called "Green grow the rashes-o," either as single verses or by counting backward in the style of that folk song.

I'll give you one-o. What is your one-o?
Down in the darkness chasing rats that run-o.

I'll give you two-o. What is your two-o?
Bunnies in the town square sink their teeth in you-o.

I'll give you three-o. What is your three-o?
Plains cats, fierce cats, slay you as you flee-o.

I'll give you four-o. What is your four-o?
Kill a wolf, take its skin, nail it on the door-o.

I'll give you five-o. What is your five-o?
Kill a bear, cloak to wear, if you're still alive-o.

I'll give you six-o. What is your six-o?
Gremlins in a hollow tree, hiding string and sticks-o.

I'll give you seven-o. What is your seven-o?
Green undead, zombie head, blows received and given-o.

I'll give you eight-o. What is your eight-o?
Demon scout lurks about, kill him at the gate-o.

I'll give you nine-o. What is your nine-o?
Pirates on the south shore, weapons sharp and fine-o.

I'll give you ten-o. What is your ten-o?
Haunted farm, mallards harm, undead headless hen-o.

Name now Nya, the noble enchanter!
To the dark realm of the Demon-Lord
she was stolen unwilling on a woeful day,
but with bright courage in Balthazar's lair
she strove bravely, staff-wielding hero.
From that baneful place she bore a prize,
a cold mage-staff, striking ice-power.
False are the words of wicked Balthazar,
for a brave heart, a hero's courage,
are valued most by Valorn's realm.
By such courage will come one day
the Demon-Lord's downfall, our destined victory.

Er, perhaps I should have explained that it's a poem, not a song. I put it on this notice board because it's about a Valornian.

This day I speak the praise of the warrior Zortek,
Zortek the brave, whom Balthazar smote with destruction.
Destruction came, descending fiercely on Valorn:
Valorn's adventurers battled the minions of evil,
evil led by Balthazar, Lord of Demons.

Demons raided; the Crier called and was heard.
Heard was the sound of Balthazar slaughtering heroes;
heroes who strove, and initiates, all were brought down.
Down in the Tombs was Zortek, and heard their voices,
voices of youth, of initiates, none who were strong.
Strong in rage was the answer of Zortek to Balthazar:
"Balthazar, coward, seek ye opponents more worthy!"

Worthy the words, though woeful their answer came swiftly.
Swiftly the Demon-lord sought the sword-bearer Zortek.
Zortek he struck, destroying his Ultimate Weapon,
weapon long sought, and weakened his body as well.
Well was Zortek content, though smitten by Balthazar,
Balthazar's wrath to turn from the people of Valorn.

Valorn is blessed, to have such a hero as he;
he in his turn was blessed with return of his weapon,
weapon of Ultimate Power, re-forged that was lost.
Lost was a measure of strength, but not of his honor.
Honor he surely has earned with deeds such as this:
This day I speak the praise of the warrior Zortek.

*Kit Written writes down a song on a piece of parchment.*

I improvised this song, when in good company at Cerbie's Grill:

There once was a Lady, who worked up on a hill
She'd sweat and she'd toil, under the Keeper, Wil
Her red hair and great smile, would greet you at the Grill
And thus there was the Lady, who worked up on a hill

There once was a Warrior, who stood solid and strong
Like the beasts she vanquished, she'd growl the whole day long
She ne'er quite got justice, not even from this song
And thus there was the Warrior, who stood solid and strong

There once was a 'chanter, that gave the sweetest smile
She'd always use the cannon, to reach that extra mile
She'd zoom to and fro, but always, all the while
She was the sweet enchanter, even if she was a pile.

Rubaiyat for Topaz

For those who wait, the Winter drear
Must seem to last throughout the year
And ev'ry frosted breath must take
From deep within, such pain and fear.

For sons at war their lives forsake,
For those who fearful journeys make,
For family lost in this dark age,
Unending wait; asleep, awake.

In journals, scrawled across each page,
Or in our dreams the hopes engage,
And hold us caught in search of light,
For war 'gainst hopeless black to wage.

She waited, with a warrior's might,
Not ever plaintive of her plight,
Rewarded now with loving cheer;
Enduring faith and honour bright.
