Society of Storytellers? Interested in a Story Group.

Postby Viviyana » Sun Jun 12, 2016 1:09 am

I am interested in starting a storytellers group. We could meet weekly or bi-weekly on a set evening and challenge ourselves to different interactive storytellings, occasionally gathering to just tell straight stories. Here are some examples of what I mean by interactive:

Twist up the Story

One brave soul would be the storyteller. They would call on different people in the group one to suggest setting, one to suggest protagonist. They would start a story, pausing every so often ((After every 1-2 posts)) to call on another person in the group who would offer a twist, one thing - person, place or thing - that the storyteller would have to incorporate into the story. The story would continue until everyone has offered a twist (( Or two twists in the case of a small group.))

Round Robin

A pretty familiar story form where one person starts the story and then passes it onto another person of their choice when the moment feels right (( Perhaps a max of three posts before passing.)) That person takes up the story and does whatever the wish with it until again they pass it to another, eventually the story ends...hopefully.

Guided Interactive Story

One person would be the storyteller, the others would be various characters in the story. The Storyteller would set up the situation and then react and guide the story based on the characters choices and vice versa. Dice would be rolled to determine acts that might have serious impact on the story such as battles or risky moves. (( Yes, Valornian D&D only with less emphasis placed on stats, rules, etc and more emphasis placed on a good story. Thank you Kairiel for the suggestion.))

If interested please respond below with what turn and time would work best for you (( Weekday please.))

I'd try this if my schedule permits.

This sounds wonderful, (sounds a little like Zarock's Tales and Ales gathering) and usually, Saturdays after 4pm PST are the best for me. I understand how hard it is to accommodate everyone's schedule though.

OOC It reminded me more of getting together with Kai and Syn for a story circle.

Le sigh, the things I miss doing.

I think it a combination of both. :)

How does Tuesdays at 8pm EST sound? I can't do weekends anymore, alas.

OOC Will be around for this as I'm able, I just got a second job for roughly 4 nights a week, so we'll see what happens in terms of my availability for events.

No weekends? Boo! LOL
Maybe next time could switch a day?
Sadly, Tuesdays and Wednesdays will probably never let me DG.

Thanks for the consideration; I'm sure this will be lots of fun!

Ooc There's always next month Ayla! I'm working on sorting a new things IRL and once I get some semblance of an idea of my schedule I might be able to do something on the weekends. Or I might be setting my sights high on the "might be available" spectrum.

OOC given the mishaps of real life, why don't you try to let people post at random, Viv? An on going story, or a set of stories maybe?
Take what you can, leave none in poverty!
