March Preparation - Scouting

Postby Thorne » Mon May 09, 2016 9:12 pm

In order to leave no stone unturned in our efforts to find a way into the Dark Fortress of the Demon Lord, we will be coordinating a group scouting mission to pursue several of the possibilities put forth by you in our recent gatherings. Please meet at the Dark River on ((Wednesday, May 18, 7pm EDT, midnight BST)). We will make every effort through the use of teleportation portals and escorts to include those who normally are not able to survive the Dead Zone's dangers.

The scouting theories we will be pursuing are as follows (and thank you to those adventurers who brought them up in our meetings):

Exploring fissures and sinkholes in Dead Zone - Topaz
Exploring the Dead Zone beach - Aryana Moonsong
Utilizing Bronze items against the fortress wall - Dimitri
Explore wall of ravine for effluence entrances - Thorne Blackrose
Plan how to get two or three cannons through the Deadzone - Falx Monde
Find an ideal area to target with cannons - Falx Monde

While we feel it will be effective to do this scouting as a coordinated group, we know that your individual (or group) efforts towards these ends are just as valuable. Feel free to add to this posting with additional scouting forays.

Also, please see this message for a request of an important ongoing mission toward creating navigable passage through the Dead Zone. If you are planning to scout on your own, in addition to appraising us of any results and insight, please also work towards this mission.

Dead Zone Scouting trip

Friday May 13 Starting at 9pm EST/6pm PST/8pm CST

I will be conducting a scouting trip into the Dead Zone. Anyone is welcome to come but this is mainly for those who are unable to travel through the Dead Zone on their own. I hope to show you all what you can expect to see when we launch the assault on the Fortress and also help you to learn the path that we are trying to forge. Also, this will help you to learn how to travel in a group within this area.

We will meet in Dundee Inn and from there we will portal over with the help of any enchanters that join us. I would like to have at least one or two enchanters that can cast portal to get everyone there and back safely.

Please contact me if you have any questions or concerns or just want to let me know you wish to go.

(OOC: This will be the first one. I plan to conduct a second one another day next week earlier in the day for those who can't make it to this one.)

Well...I'm no enchanter, but my blade is yours to do with as you see fit. I'm told I need to get out more...figure scouting is a good way to get out some.

Too late for me I am afraid (it will be 2am here in Blighty, then!), but good luck, and safe travels to you all. I sincerely hope to be able to join the next excursion.

Due to the pushing up of the date and time for the retaking of the Castle, the scouting mission will be rescheduled. I will let you know the new date and time soon.

Just a reminder that this is going on tonight. Meet up at Strom and we will discuss a course of action. If you are willing to portal people to Dark River, let me know so I can direct anyone unable to get there to you at a convenient location for a portal so people are not running all over looking for a way there.

Hope to see you there,
Cody

Greetings, fellow adventurers,

We will again be leading another expedition into the Dead Zone to explore the varied possibilities of entrance to the Dark Fortress. Please meet at the Dark River on ((Monday, May 23, 3pm EDT, 8pm BST)). We will again make every attempt to assist those who can not travel there on their own. But in an attempt to accomplish multiple tasks at once, we will likely split into a few parties. In this way, those that do not require escort can focus on one task and those that do will travel with their escort to focus on another.

The possibilities we hope to pursue are:
Exploring fissures and sinkholes in Dead Zone
Explore wall of ravine for effluence entrances
Utilizing Bronze items against the fortress wall

For the first two tasks, we request that you bring a spear or lance. If you are not able to secure one, we will try to have some to spare. If you can think of another tool that might be useful in exploring crevices, please bring it.

The last task, because of the inherent danger in calling attention to ourselves, we will do last and also request that any bearers of items marked by the Bronze entity bring them.

Lastly, please see this message for a request of an important ongoing mission toward creating navigable passage through the Dead Zone.

Sorry for the late reminder but this is happening in about a marc or so. Just like last time we'll meet at Strom, any problems or questions feel free to ask.

Hope to see some of you there.

*Brielle staggers in under the weight of a huge bag that's dripping gore. She dumps it's gruesome contents, leaving a pile of heads of Decaying Solders. Stepping back, she gives an emphatic nod.*

I hope we have another scouting trip soon. I'm so ready!

Are these zombie heads for the idea I suggested of covering overselves in undead gore so we can better blend in with the undead we encounter without drawing attention to ourselves? The last meeting got interrupted so I have no idea if it was taken seriously as a tactic we will be using, however I was absolutely serious. I do know it is a good strategy (had to test it myself long ago) and quite practical - even if gross. Think of it the same way as when people who hunt animals sometimes spray themselves in the urine of the animal they are currently hunting. This is so they can travel in amongst those animals without tipping them off that a human is lurking. *wrinkles her nose*

Anyways -- I will be collecting more zombie guts and pieces and mashing it all up. And I suggest mashing those heads up, which I can do if no one minds? The heads will help thicken gore for rubbing into our clothing. Trust me - we don't want our 'cadaver cologne' washing off to early.

I have some extra clay barrels from the ones I made for acid storage outside the mooon. We can store our zombie goop in these until it is needed. The longer it sits in the pots the more putrid and rotten it will become - which will only work in our favor. I know this is all pretty foul and dirty but it is effective! Trust me - I'm very confident it will help us during some of these planned endeavors (IE: cannon moving / crossing the dark river AND possibly somehow in the actual March upon the fortress.

Hopefully this can be discussed further in a future meeting and please if anyone wants to talk about it (especially the Order) reach out to me anytime.

Actually, I brought them in to prove I'm not spooked by decaying soldiers. Not in the least!

But it think that's a very good strategy, Ellyana. Stinky, nasty good.

More powerful than most of the Horrors in the Dead Zone are the Giant Corpse Grazers who feed upon the dead and undead alike, Lady Lilli. My inclination would be that this tactic would draw them to us, but if you wish to experiment with the idea you are of course free and encouraged to do so.

As far as the other tactics we had outlined, we believe we have arrived at conclusions for all of them. I don't believe there will be another Order-organized scouting mission, at this point. We were unable to find any definitive leads towards an entry.

But, things may change in that regard. Also, anyone is welcome and encouraged to work through any ideas they might have via a scouting party.

Please continue to work to clear a path to the Fortress if you have the Marcs.

((Elly, and all, feel free to use this thread to schedule further scouting events! And just a reminder to check with admin if you think it will need interaction, such as to prove or disprove a theory.))

If we used the gore-theory, it would not be to mask adventurers.
