March Preparation - Ongoing Dead Zone Clearing

Postby Thorne » Mon May 09, 2016 5:07 pm

One of the obstacles we face in the challenge to assault the Dark Fortress is the means of conveying a large force of adventurers of various ability through the Dead Zone, which is too dangerous for some to tackle alone. While an enchanter's portal might bring some to its border, we do not have the means to teleport all the way to the Fortress.

Last Turn, several adventurers who are very familiar with the Dead Zone and fight there often, met to discuss one particular, untested stratagem. That, if a concerted effort were made by adventurers to focus their energy on a specific path from the entrance to the Dead Zone to the Dark Fortress itself, that eventually, the creatures that wander that path might be, at least temporarily, discouraged from crossing into it. Then, when the assault on the Fortress occurred, there would be a clear path through the Zone for adventurers to join or rejoin the battle.

While this would be an unprecedented outcome, we were in agreement that it could not hurt to begin to attempt it. There are many who traverse the Dead Zone regularly for training or treasure-seeking reasons. Our hope is to ask those who do to make this particular path their focus when they do so, and to increase their efforts if possible.

After some discussion, the path decided upon is:
  1. West, from the entrance as far as one might go.
  2. North, across the bridge over the ravine.
  3. East, along the ravine's edge for six area-spans.
  4. North, to the wall of the Fortress that is marked with chalk.
  5. And back.
Please share this information with anyone you see in and around the Dead Zone or of sufficient ability to assist. A task like this may not appear to make any progress, but we ask that you remain diligent as its success could be hugely instrumental in affecting a battle at and inside the Fortress.

I wanted to share my gratitude to those that I know of who have been working at this along with Cody Fireblade so far.

Thanks to:
Urey Blacksmith
Drapon Speck
Sorynn
Lavender Morgan
Topaz
Bebhinn Mac Airem
Korba
Aryana Moonsong

Edited to add:
Dabria Kamali

Edited further to add:
Alanna Sylverhaven

I am sure more of you have done so and it is merely that our paths have not yet crossed. Please use this space to share when you have been able to assist. I remain optimistic that we can achieve some solution here and knowing how much energy has been expended will allow us to measure the effectiveness of the strategy.

As High Queen Cordelia asked in her address, please keep up your efforts towards making a clear path through the Dead Zone for those that can not easily fight their way there, so in the march to the Fortress we can focus upon one front and keep our supply line free of wandering trouble.

Please report beneath these messages if there are any changes you notice. Thank you again for your work!

*bows her head humbly* I did not do anything you wouldn't have done Bris. But glad I could help.

Somewhere between 2-4 cst Lavender felt a warm breeze blow while about to fall asleep near Strom after running the path. (( Forgive me for not noting the exact time I was logging off because I was at a Birthday party.))

**gasps**

That could only have been a hint at a devastating new threat to Trinald - The sinister, terrifying, blood curdling "warm breeze".

The Iron Order will have to start planning emergency evacuations, and conjure up battle plans for how to defeat air, at once.

Proposed battle plan to defeat air:

It's been a while since I've gone to the zone to help with this (RL) but plan to get there again soon.

*laughs softly* You are right Mighty Zeric, it was probably nothing what-so-ever.... but everyone said the dust Rosaline saw around Altitan was just something that was blown by the wind... soon after we met Miss Sparrowflower, I have learned to never discredit anything that I may see or feel.

Not in the dead zone, but woke in the Nexus just now to the warm breeze attacking me! *Looks stunned*

Indeed he did. Though since no one saw either occurrence but myself it must seem I have gone mad....*sighs* And perhaps I have since I've no proof. *Smiles sheepishly*

After corroborating my own findings, I believe our efforts are making some success. Thank you all and please continue the work. I have added Alanna Sylverhaven's name to the contributors. Please point out to me anyone I have missed.

For the first time ever, I actually found 0 creatures on the way to the spot. But 6 on the way back, the average for me lately is there 5/4 back. But have gotten as many as 8 one way.

That sounds like continued progress to me. I had a trip where the northern expanse had 0 attacks. Excellent, thank you for the continued work, Lavender!

This turn at most I am seeing 6 creatures total in a round trip there and back. So seems to have dropped significantly from my last run! :D

I have been running the path for the past 6 marcs and I am finding.... nothing... literally nothing on the path this time. ~ Lavender

*lets a slow smile seep out* Really? Excellent. We should keep checking it though with the changed schedule for the March. We don't want them creeping back in. This is extraordinarily good news.

I agree and will continue to run it periodically to ensure that it stays this way... at least until we no longer need it! *winks*

Nothing on the path this turn either. *smiles* I'll keep checking too. Hopefully this is one battle we've won!
