Ponderings of a Cleric

Postby Kellen Cryptbane » Wed Aug 12, 2009 3:16 am

I've returned to the lands and taken up the holy Godfist Warhammer bestowed upon me by the God Ben once more. I hope to find myself continuing to be worthy of the blessings and power the Gods have bestowed upon me, but time and the Gods will grant those who come after me with that story.

During my travels the last few days, I've also been blessed by the presence of some who knew me during my past travels in the land, and by meeting a number of new people who have found themselves hearing the call of duty, or perhaps that of fame and glory, to serve in the defense of Valorn. It has been a pleasure to speak with many of them, and I've found myself the recipient of gifts while I slept that helped gird me against the foes I fought during my battles, and the giver of blessings to those that passed by so that I may bestow upon them the blessings the Gods have granted me, humble as they are. Even now, after all this time it is hard for me to understand how one who tilled the fields for many years became a vessel for the Gods to use. But that is the calling and test of faith. I do not have to understand the how and why, I just have to believe in what must be done and follow the will of the God Ben as he leads me.

Many have asked the tale of the weapon I wield, and the story behind it, and soon I shall tell that tale in full, so that many may hear of the powers of the Gods, and the tumultous times when I struggled with my faith and calling, and how my faith in the gods and prayers for Guidance were answered. While it was indeed a humbling and yet awe inspiring event, I must rest for now, as Ural kept me hard at work trying to keep the corridors in the wall clear and take a small toll of the undead forces that the Demon seeks to send among us, but I shall return soon to tell the tale of that weapon, and how it came to be.
A humble follower and Cleric of the Storm God Ben.
Blessed by his gifts and powers he has bestowed upon me.
Spreading the word and blessings of the Gods to all Valorn's people,
as long as the Gods find me worthy to serve them.

((As an OOC and out of interest, I vaguely remember that you were around when Ben needed help testing a bug fix - remind me what the bug was?)) M.

((The process to transition from an initiate to a profession was broken, and I spent about an hour or two with Ben going through a lot of different attempts to fix the problem. We finally were successful, and once again people could grow from being initiates. Much of the tale is written "in character" in my journal as well, and I'll be telling the tale IC tonight in game at 5 pm eastern in the shieldwall guildhouse))

The Gods have blessed me once again. After many long hours of battles and prayers, Ural found fit to advance me once again and I've obtained some new armor that helps heep the creatures claws and weapons on the outside of it a bit better than the last did. The Lady Topaz has invited me to speak at their guildhall tonight about the Godfist Warhammer and I have agreed. Not so that I can tout my own part of the deed, but to bear witness to the power of Ben, especially in my hours of indecision and doubt as to my profession - taking up the sword or the mace, so to speak.

While I've had many a time of trial and frustration as a cleric, each time I think back to that first day and what I had to overcome to wear the robe and ring, to be given the ability to spread the power of the Gods to where it was needed, to assist those of Valorn in hour of need, and to show the Gods were active in the land. The Gods test us continually, but the threat is great, and it is good that we do not grow lax or used to times of ease and plenty.

There are times for ease and celebration, and I certainly do not believe in a life filled with constant sacrifice and deprivation, but we have to remember the threat this land faces and be prepared for what comes, and to continue to make this land a better place for those who come after us.

I would be glad in the hearing of the tale. If I be allowed entrance.

However I may be given a call that takes me away.

I'm assuming that this is politeness speaking, and any may attend. If Shieldwall is at all inaccessible, perhaps escort could be provided to help younger adventurers get there. Seems like a tale from which all could benefit.

Directions to Shieldwall:

From Milltown Center, go north to the western mountain pass. Go west to the Mountain Retreat path. Go north to the old Life Monument. Go east until you see our garden.
