Told recently in the inn.
This tale hails from a faraway place that don't know to call them Sunrifter and Demon Eye's. So benighted are these people that they know not of the gods either. Gold is, as the alchemists say the perfect balanced metal. To turn another metal into gold, is to bring it into balance. Then what of platinum? How can it be more valuable? This tale tells how.
Long ago, the Sun looked and saw, just out of the corner of his eye, the lovely moon, peering shyly over the horizon. He was smitten by her bright beauty and thought on how to woo her, when he could so rarely meet her.
He asked about, and learned that a gift of jewelry might be welcome.
So he crafted and crafted when he was out of our sight and used the most beautiful of all metals - gold. Finally he finished and had a beautiful necklace with pure gold nuggets hanging from it like tiny suns.
He waited until he could see a Star and asked her to deliver it to Moon. Star agreed and did so. Now stars have individual names, but we don't know that.
Moon was enchanted by the gift and smiled upon it and Sun. And her shining brilliance changed the gold's color, making it more precious as it was the symbol of their love. She too had snuck glimpses of him and was as enchanted with him as he was with her.
She dropped it to the Earth so Sun could see she returned his affections. And it shone with a silvery light
And to this day, we can still find the gold that Moon smiled upon. And we call it platinum. And the perfectly balanced metal is made more valuable by the care Sun spent on it and the delight with which Moon received it.
