A song for your enjoyment - The Fountain

Postby Cerdinak » Thu Nov 23, 2006 2:34 am

South of Dundee, there's a place where a fountain sits, the water cool and fresh, where many an adventurer has quenched their thirst and rested for a bit. Tis one of those times, sitting by that fountain, that I remembers a time, my memories stirred by the sound of the water. This is the song I wrote about those memories. I hope you'll find it to your liking.

"The Fountain"

I sit by the fountain and I see the clear waters
A making a rainbow in the light of the day
The murmuring whispers of the gentle fountain
Carry my cares and my worries away

The whispering waters, the quiet is healing
The rippling surface like the thoughts of my mind
And as my thoughts wander, I think of a lassie
And ponder the day when I thought she'd be mine

Was early in springtime, the day that I met her
I was wandering alone through the woods and the glens
When I heard a gay laughter, so joyous it drew me
Like a moth to a flame, her voice reeled me right in.

So I walked through the forest, till I came to a clearing
And I found a lass dancing in the rays of the sun
The birds and the butterflies seemed to dance with her
For the pure joy of living, they danced all as one

As she espied me, a watching them dancing
She held out her arms, and she beckoned just so
With a "come join me, laddie" and a smile so inviting
Soon I was smitten by the lass of the grove

The day passed too quickly, the hours like minutes
At the red skies of dusk the lass said she must go
I said "Take me with you", but she shook her head sadly
"I wish that I could lad, but I canna, you know"

She squeezed my hands tightly, and then she embraced me
And the last I remember is a lingering kiss
When I awoke there, the full moon was rising
With a hint of her laughter in the gathering mists

I sit by the fountain and I see the clear waters
With a smile on my face as I remember that day
And the murmuring waters of that gentle fountain
Carries my cares and my worries away.

[OOC - I actually wrote and recorded that song a few years ago as a .wav file. Maybe I'll put it up on the web somewhere for those who might be inclined to listen to it.]
