That's good. I find this highly quotable. Something that many characters might be familiar with, from when they were children.

another children's game song

Initiate's Song

sword and salve
Pick and dagger
chase the foe
make them stagger

Sparkle and staff
Hammer and prayer
hunt as you may
find evil's lair

stalk the shadows
charge the fight
walk the vortex
bring the light

Dance in darkness
laugh in light
What shall we be
in temple's sight?

This is a lullaby for wee Valornians. Credit to Azure for making me think of it. :)

Sweet delight, those who fight call themselves mighty warriors.
Crafy schemes, lockpick dreams are the treasures of a rogue.
Devout praise, holy ways show the honor of a cleric.
Magic dust, sparkles must bring joy to each enchanter.
So little one, think upon,
All the things you might become.
And don't fret, I won't let any darkness have you.

I've got the tune rolling around in my head, but that doesn't help...I can't share it...
I long for the song of the morning, the dancing of shadows at dusk, and the silence that closes the night.

I hear that Cenny is discouraged because although he writes many songs, no one has written a song for him.

A lantern's fire will burn through darkest night,
through any story cloud or falling rain.
Still it shines forth, for so the gods ordain
that light will conquer darkness, glimmering bright.

Of Cenny Konxovar I now endite;
in Valorn's army he does not fight in vain,
but strikes with strength and courage, evil's bane,
the foe of darkness, cleric of the light.

He bears the gods-light burning through the dark;
his is the power that makes the darkness flee,
that heals the wounds where evil leaves its mark;
singing with triumph, a zither in his hand.
So Cenny Konxovar will always be
a fire in Valorn, a light in the land.

OOC Notes: This song should be sung to the melody of "Prothalamium," a song performed by Judy Collins on the album "Whales and Nightingales." ( I have been unable to find a YouTube or the equivalent for it.) The variations in the scansion match the ones in the original words, and the last line should be repeated, also as in the original.

OOC: For the super curious, the best I can offer is that it is track 4 on this playlist via Spotify.

A wondrous gesture, friend. I breathed no such request to any, but am greatly touched, friend.

((A lullabye sung in game while Sigarni and Synvasti were tucking the sapling away for the winter.))

Summer's over, here and gone.
Now comes winter, nights so long.
Here you sleep, safe from harm.
Dream of summer, gold and warm.

Dream of greenness, dream of light.
Dream of health and of long life.
Dream of triumph, victory, too.
Dream of me and dream of you.

Summer's over, here and gone.
Now comes winter, nights so long.
But here you sleep, safe from harm.
Dream of summer, gold and warm.
Strength t'yer sword arm, the same t'our bond. Life t'ye, an' keep ye strong.

I am bumping this thread because such artistry should never be forgotten - and re-reading these songs has brought back fond memories :)

And Valornians need more songs, if anyone feels so inclined. :D
I'm sorry, I can't hear you over the sound of how awesome I am :D
