RoK Library

Postby Brisingr Blaze » Mon Apr 06, 2020 3:22 am

It was a late turn just like any other, usually, he was in the library reading up on different topics that caught his interest or, perhaps, a refresher on a topic quite familiar to him. This turn, however, was going to end rather different from any previous turn. About halfway through the book he looked up, his attention rapt on the western door. He had heard something, he was sure of it. That should be impossible… In all his cycles leading the Remnants, and even cycles before that when he was still just a member, that door had never been open to anyone.

He got up from his seat and deposited the book on the table beside him. One hand grasped the candle-holder tight as he proceeded towards the door. Seasons upon seasons of walking the halls led his eyes to the bottom of the door. It was slightly ajar. A soft, faint squeak could be heard again, louder this time. It left him perplexed, as didn't recall Purazon giving him the keys to these doors. Surely, he had been awake too long. With a shake of his head and with that thought in mind, he wandered towards the south and used the candle to guide him back to his quarters for the night.

The following morning, he got up and with 'Rifter light he wandered back to the library to light the candles within the room and examine the western door. His eyes had not played tricks on him, the door was, in fact, ajar. He looked down at his key-ring mentally naming off the keys in his head only to come up one short. All other doors had their key accounted for except this door.

(As he finds out more I will update and post more to this. Currently working on some surprises and a possible contest to go along with this.)

Several stacks of parchment rest in corners of the desk. The one at the center of the desk shows the work order for the library and the two storage rooms. The west room is marked out several times as if either an omission or someone didn't wish for the door to ever be listed in future documents. He quickly turns his attention to the western door when a gust of air billows out from the opening. The smell of old parchment and compost lingers heavy in his nostrils causing a gag reflex.

His gaze shifts to the opening as he hears movement, but when he looks there is nothing there. The door begins to raddle as more gusts of wind billow out, he stands and takes several steps backwards. "I need to lock this down now and see what I can find in our other records!" He quickly exits, shutting the library doors behind him with a 'thud' and locks them.

Several turns ago now the doors to the public library were locked and a sign hung up. We wanted to make sure no one got hurt by whatever was coming from within.

Our primary focus right now has been finishing up with the pumpkin patch and announcing the next Pumpkin King/Queen. Which will be happening in the next two turns and will hopefully allow us some freedom to unlock the doors and see what trouble lies beyond.

-----Quickly pinned to the bottom of the above notice-----

Everything was fine when I visited the doors earlier in the turn but now the doors have bite marks and goo dripping from splintered wood fragments. For now the doors hold shut.

A somber quiet dulled the senses as he settled into his chair after a long night of paperwork. He had been dealing with pumpkins, bandits and moose of all things. All of which had created a plethora of documents stacked upon his desk.

He leaned over his desk and rubbed at his forehead in a circular motion, "The last quarter cycle or so has been so long that I'm going to get a cramp in my quill hand." He said as he exhaled a sigh and turned his head from side to side looking around out into his dimly lit office.

The sound of something popping echoed into the dull of the night. He slid his seat back and got to his feet all in one swift movement as he darted to the open window.

His head throbbed with each pop.

He looked out toward the library but the canopy of trees blocked his line of sight. He ran to the door, grabbing his fire staff that leaned against the frame of the door. "By Jago's red beard!" He exclaimed, leaving the door behind him wide open.

Within a half marc he had run down to the pumpkin patch, the doors to the library almost within his view. Upon closer inspection, he could see the doors had been splintered from the center out.

Slinking and slithering grabbed his attention from the doors as his sight dipped and weaved across the tree line.

Worms. Goo.

The area had been covered in bookworms and the goo they excreted. With a quick wave of his staff, he burst forth a stream of flames in the direction of the worms. Goo bubbled up under the heat of the flames, and the sound of wine corks popping sounded off.

He watched the bookworms retreat back into the library as the noise faded and the sickening scent of bubbling goo lingered in the air.

With a few quick strides he ended up in the library and looked around to survey the damage. The place had all but been destroyed and the western door now opened.

The worms seemed to have fallen back… for now.

Over the course of the night he had a guard stationed out front to serve as a warning should anyone dare enter.

((OOC: This will remain in place for Fall Festival, have fun and if you want feel free to post stories of your own adventures exploring the library.))

Joyfire wanders her new guild home getting acquainted with the layout, upon finding a door that had previously been locked "For public's safety." Or so she had been told. She makes her way inside to find books thrown everywhere! She carefully picks through the tombs and parchments then makes a face as she exclaims "What in N'rolav! Why are these covered in goo!" wipes her hand off on her skirt and makes her way farther into the library, where she finds a hole, being a curious adventurer, she wanders in, ultimate weapon at the ready! Worms were EVERYWHERE! Seems they made a nice little nest under the library. Joyfire looked on at the mess with disgust but shakes her head and heads off as for the moment there was naught, she could do.
