The peasants are the ones charging those amounts. They don't have to pay it because they eat their own produce.

Yes, Tess Weaver and Avery Weaver are related, although we are not sure to what degree.

I don't think there is a "conspiracy." Until recently, farming was dangerous, because farmers in the fields were always being attacked by demons. I always thought that was why the price of produce was so outrageous (yes, I agree); the farmers were charging hazard pay.

Maybe now that things are calmer someone could suggest that they might make as much money, if not more, by making their produce more accessible.
