Information on Ryn

Postby Viviyana » Wed Aug 24, 2016 6:34 pm

** A carefully crafted parchment placed within the Dundee Outpost Meeting Room.**

In 3 turns time we will be marching on the Dark Fortress. Before it was the tainted home of Balthazar it was the Golden Aged city of Ryn. Here is a summary and listing of what we know of Ryn. If anyone would like to add information I have left off please feel free to. This information is not needed to join in the incursion, but all knowledge is a power of its own.

History of Ryn.

"In the early ages of our time, our knowledge grew and flourished in the beauty of what is known as the Golden Age. Jealous eyes were cast against us as this knowledge grew, the threads of the world becoming ever clearer to us in all their beautiful agony. And so the masters of our stratum, the High Council of the Ryndarian, sought protection for our kind that we could continue our studies in peace and prosperity, as we knew what would soon fall upon us. So our great city of Ryn was conceived. A golem of sorts, imbued with great magic yet without sentience to protect and ensure the safety of our peoples. She served us beyond all wonder for countless turns before the betrayal of Balthazar, recognising only those with direct blood links to the original creators in her service." - Primus Modus Arctane.

As you all, hopefully, know before our time was the Golden Age, and where the Dead Zone sits was a vast forest - the forest of Ryn. On the far edge of the forest was a city of legend, the Mage's city. Ryn. It wasn't like any city we know now. She had been lovingly crafted with a purpose, to defend those within from the outside world. Ryn was built as a stationary golem, responsive to the needs of her creators, those who lived within. She held the means for their comfort and sustenance as well as their defense. So the mages lived in this great golem city, defended behind wall in which acid runs like blood veins, protected by stone creatures and spikes. There is also rumor that Ryn could act as a weapon as well....although to do so there would need enough power - or orbits.

In the end it was one of the Mages of Ryn, the mage Balthazar, who betrayed the others for reasons unknown to us and took control of the city. Presumably the people of Valorn marched to liberate it and lost badly - becoming the roving horrors of the Dead Zone. It is theorized that this lead to the downfall of the Golden Ages and the rise of Balthazar's power.

Information on Ryn.

" Deep within her walls lie pathways to carry and magnify the pure essences of our power, which can also be channeled to visit terrible wrath upon all who would seek our destruction. Out of greater requirements, we have taken the precaution to ensure that only those with a direct blood lineage to our original High Council of creators and possession of a keystone tome are able to employ her abilities. This manual provides a documented guide to the collective understanding of Ryn, her abilities and requirements." - The Tome of Ryn.

  • Ryn has defense mechanisms and also has the ability to be a weapon of world destruction.
  • Ryn's defenses include acid within the walls, living spikes around the tops of the walls and stone guardians.
  • It takes the orbits (power) of seven blood-bound mages to activate Ryn. Although it is theorized that if one or two mages were powerful enough they might have enough orbits.
  • There are five blood-bound mages on the Council (including Azeraphel) and Balthazar is blood-bound. Arctane is blood bound as well, although we do not know if she is included in the five council mages. If not that totals the needed seven, if so we are one short.
  • To control Ryn one must have a keystone tome and be blood-bound (Descendant of the original creators.)
Using the tome a blood-bound mage (Arctane) can reveal the gateway into Ryn. However, it will have to be blasted into once revealed.
Other Notes

  • Azeraphel was in possession of a powerful book, called the Book of Sacrifices when he was kidnapped. As far as we last knew Azeraphel and Balthazar battled over control of this tome within the Dark Fortress.
  • Azeraphel has stated that three powerful item are desired by Balthazar to 'control the darkness' these are presumed to be the Dark Staff, the Book of Sacrifices, and the Sword of Valorn.
  • Azeraphel was very interested in the Bronze entity before he was kidnapped.
  • The Bronze entity is thought to have been the thing contained in the Sunken Temple. It is likewise thought to now be in Balthazar's possession.
For more information on the Bronze please refer to my notes on the matter. (( You know, if I ever find time to write them up ;) ))
