Cenny's Songs

Postby Cenny » Tue May 06, 2014 6:38 am

Cenny's Respite
((it is sung low-pitched, brooding, and slow, with the last two lines especially so, lingering on each word...))

Here's for our fears... / To sing our sorrows away...
Find peace from our battles.... / A fond home to stay...
Forget now dark ponderings... / Split marc for our dreams...
Find love 'way from anger... / Find light when dusk creeps...
Here's for our fears... / To sing our sorrows away...
Find rest for our weary... / Find clean where we've bled...
Forsake now dark furies... / Split marc for our kin...
Find tales from our memory... / Find songs to pretend...
Here's for our fears... / To sing our sorrows away...
Here's for our fears... / To sing our victory chants...
In that trial of ages...
To find hope from within...

Cenny's Jest
((it is sung carefree and lilting, the melody light-hearted and jovial, if somewhat slow))

Woke a marc before the dawn... / To see an old friend passing by...
Well if we've met it won't surprise... / I went along to meet and smile...
Isn't quite how things turned out... / Nay - wasn't what I said at all!
Aye my friend, sorry can't say! / Here's a wagged tail and yap of good day!
Got kicked out on Kilican! / Howled a new song to the wind!
Another friend passed me by... / Course barely knew it was I!
Stick in the river - sorry my friend... / Pup's not quite learned just how to swim!
Aye my friend, go fall in... / Here's a wagged tail and yap of good day!
Made a friend in Dundee Inn... / Chased old Furfuz 'round the bend...
You may say it's nothing true... / Here's a wagged tail and yapped greet for you to believe!

Cenny's Render
((The tune is soft, occasionally lilts up in pitch, slow...))

Upon a path so wondrous time ran or stood still... / Wandered one despondent from ichor and ill...
There waited a figure of days not yet seen... / So the wanderer called out to be heard his pleas...
'Show me the days from which all hope springs... / Surely a future when all will know peace...'
The other reached out and pointed him true... / Said, 'Ancient, your weariness pains me to see...'
'I'll show you the days from which my hope springs... / I'll show you the time that most heartens me...'
The man stood astonished, stood silent and still... / For he saw not the future but the world that he knew...
The other said, 'Ancient, do you see what I do? / Not kingdoms, not golden, not bright a land through...
In my years we honor the memory of your now... / Your courage, your promise, your peace 'tween the frays...
In darkness like fire surviving a storm... / In fire like shadows that wouldn't be felled...
These are the days from which our hope springs... / Told in ballads and songs worthy of queens...
((the lilting ends, softening the tune))
Dear ancient, this sorrow shan't always be...
Your sorrow is fleeting - and from this our hope springs...

Render is awesome. I think you have amazing, evocative lines, and - as you prefaced your song - a timely theme. Thank you, Cenny.

((I really appreciate the emote cues on how the song is sung. I'm mostly ignorant about music so it really helps me to be able to 'hear' the tune.))
I long for the song of the morning, the dancing of shadows at dusk, and the silence that closes the night.

Cenny's Vide
((the tune is slow and airy, but the tone is full of confidence))

Oh, they say stay changeless lest we be forgot... / If we fade away has it all been for naught?
When there comes a day and our battles have ceased.... / Will any remember the fear that we fought?
And they say stay changeless... / And they say we change now...
And they say too stubborn... / And they say for our own...
And they say we're sundered... / And they say we don't know...

So, they say we change now lest we be forgot... / If we don't rise now will it all be for naught?
When there comes a day and our battles have ceased... / Will any forget the bold courage we sought?
And they say stay changeless... / And they say we change now...
And they say too angry... / And they say we resist...
And they say we're wiser... / And they say we don't understand...

And they say stay changeless lest we be forgot...
Those younger than we haven't time yet to know... / That the way we've won is the way that is true...
And they say we change now lest we be forgot...
Those older than we have abandoned bold dreams... / That the 'rifter seems brighter with each dawn it brings...
And they say stay changeless... / And they say we change now...
May we be remembered... / May we be unforgot...

This one is wonderful too. It might push Render out of first place in my esteem. Thank you, Cenny.

Cenny's Repose
((the melody rises and falls like waves on a shore, soothing and soft))

See the stars... / As they fly...
Flying slow... / They pass by...
See the stars... / Gentle lights...
Falling low... / In the sky...

Now see one... / Soft its sheen...
Stay so still... / Path ungleaned...
Now see one... / Steady bright...
Stay for us... / Light so keen...

Brightest star... / In the sky...
May our hopes... / Drift as high...
Brightest star... / Simple guide...
May your shine... / Find our eyes...

Now to skies... / As we seek...
Close our eyes... / Let them sing...
And wish day... / Soft goodbyes...

Cenny's Colors
~ what is a color, if not the thing we see so well we nearly overlook it? ~

((melody is uplifted and confident, practically dancing on the air...))

A first sensation... / A first memory...
The Rifter's waking... / Through the window came...
Though sleeping on... / The warmth was dreamt...
Though sleeping on... / The color felt...
See this color...? / May it be a color that a soul takes...
See these memories...? / If only for a quiet time...

A first venture... / A first fall down...
A new life owed... / Fond remembered now...
A vast expanse... / A far, great wild...
The unknown met... / And its color felt...
See this color...? / May it be a color that a soul takes...
See these mysteries...? / If only for the journey...

A blaze of warmth... / A blaze of light...
Who we are... / We may learn tonight...
To be sure in it... / We'll look to the sky...
A future found... / Shades of color felt...
See this color...? / May it be a color that a soul takes...
See these lives...? / If only for their sakes...

A pang of fear... / A doubt to fight...
But our peace is here... / Our shield in strife...
((slows the melody gradually...))
Look to these lives...
May they be how our faith survives...
And may it be a color that a soul takes...
((carries the words of that last line, and the song fades))

Cenny's Reflection
(the melody is slow in an almost haunting manner, though tinged with wistful pondering; it is accompanied by an unpracticed, very simplified strumming of a zither)

These are the howls of faded pawprints... / Shadowed colors of songs once soared...
These are the memories we've forsaken... / In hope that days ahead bring more...
Can you see...? / How rains and 'Rift wash these...
To dappled fears and dreams... / Then to sights ne'er been seen.

There is a shadowed and hush forest... / Mountains of plummets steep...
There are oft-haunted fields and fallows... / Turnabouts of dark trees...
Can you see...? / How breeze and brunt change these...
To thoughts silver and bold... / Then hist'ries ne'er been told...

There is remembrance and lush new life... / Where once the old was torn...
There is a castle by the water... / Where once a lake forlorn...
Can you see...? / How hand and hope shape these...
To sturdy shield and steel... / Then to things ne'er yet unveiled...

These are the laughter and the sorrow... / These that break or make us soar...
These are the colors in the darkness... / Lighting our path like ne'er before...

Can you see...? / Enough to wonder may yet be...

Cenny's Mouse of the Soused House
(sung loose and lively, by a man somewhat easily deep in his cups; the skills or lack thereof of the accompanying zither strumming bears no mention)
from NH story-night

Now here is a song for both staid and soused! / Simple celebration for the night-lively house...
Pass 'round the brewskies and blasters and ale... / Drink deep the settings of this lively tale...
There once lived a fellow dubiously named Unlucky! / Got lost in the swamps with an apt name so funny...
And here came upon the darkling walls of the knavish... / Gazed anxious upon snapping jaws of the gators...
Yet he wandered in, so worn was he... / Had he'd heard the rumors then surely he'd flee...
For a treacherous bunch lurked in shadow within... / Or so'd say the townsfolk - oh, the tales they spin!
Now he the Unlucky crept where shadows creep... / Unknowing, his fear grew as sounds and smells seeped...mostly smells.
He rounded a corner and gave the daintiest shriek! / Horrors abounding and muffled scratches and squeaks...
These were no bother to the Unlucky friend... / Rather, excited by a find soon condemned...
Took no notice of tutting and laughs in the dim... / Unlucky no more, a familiar guest then...
Just best to beware of cat eyes and green dreams... / Keep Nubb'lin a place for yourself by all means...

Cenny's Golden Resolve
(sung calm and soft, tune interweaving with the gradually more resounding - yet somewhat simplistic in tune - notes of a zither)

We gather to arms, friends... / In an eve not yet o'er...
Restless 'til daybreak... / Golden skies breached by storms...
Sword and stave rise in war-cries soon to break free...
Someday to know this... / As eve of vict'ry...

Billow your heart's fervor... / For soon comes the marc...
To hold fast to the courage burned bright from the start...

For we were torn in battle... / And we were forged anew...
We were razed by windswept seas... / And when the seas fled pulled through...

Gather at ready, kin... / The wait draws soon closed...
Breathless in waiting... / And brief in repose...
Flightful host at our backs... / When rest ends for deciding...
Sands of Gold to the wind as an era dawns defining...

Cenny's Dragonsong
(the melody is low-pitched and brooding, accompanied by a simple dance of zither notes. Near the end, the tone lifts to something of a lullaby.)

In ancient depths rest mysteries tombed in stone... / May be one luck-blessed wandered there alone...
Perchance a myth buried in ancient tomes...
What did you see...? / Just silent halls...?
What did you hear...? / In darkness calm...?
Pitch shadows trembling...?

In darkened depths a heat into stone night... / As rumbling grows a hush of fire light...
Flightful colors waking in the quiet...
Was it not time...? / How did you sooth...?
Was it a sight...? / How without proof...?
Myth lost lullaby...

Come from the world above... / To sing of sky...
Of 'Rifter dawn-dance bright... / As scales shine...
How winds and mortals sing... / For dreams of flight...
Aspiring forge as one... / Myths shan't die...

Cenny's Requiescence
(it is sung soft and airy, each word portioned its own attention, whilst zither strings strum sparse, mingling with the words)

Step with me now... / Across the seas so trembled...
Step with me now... / Into the far unknown...
Such a walk as this... / Light touched seed and stone...
What world is this unknown...?

Walk with me now... / In a place of calm shadows...
Walk with me now... / Where colors let light grow...
Such a dream as this... / Wonder in every breath we sow...
Could such wonder see us grow...?

Dream with me now... / Of white walk-ways serene...
Dream with me now... / Of what we could yet be...
Such a wish as this... / O'er the distant sea...
Would we give to be...?

Wish with me now... / Of our own shores much beloved...
Wish with me now... / Of where fell-shadows end...
Such a life as this... / When daylight descends...
Might our dreams ne'er end...?

Step with me across the seas...

((I'm glad you enjoy them! Thank you. :) ))

Cenny's Bequest
((Interwoven with the strong and soft waves of zither strumming, this song is sung in a lofted, airy tone, full of wonderment))

In the night skies so scattered above... / Star sung serenity...
In the day light so silken with blue... / Divine affinity...
All that we've fought, not yet in vain... / Steadying, we may yet refrain...
From the fears of our weakness... / The loneliness of our youths...
Of when the skies sang their soft songs...
And with ease we'd respond...
We dream of things golden, of wonders beyond... / We dream of those who may yet hold us fond...
We'd clamor for days of revelry lifelong...
Those youths have gone... / And now we hold those songs...

In the strong hearts so boldened with life... / Blood born camaraderie...
In the clear minds so artful and sure... / Our willful gallantry...
All that we've tried, never in vain... / Readying, we strive to obtain...
The old lives of our youths... / The cherished smiles of kin...
Of the hopes we aspire to inspire in them...
And with ease they'll then say...
We dream of things wondrous, of battles we've won... / We dream of healing those we hold fond...
And we'll clamor to see memories ne'er gone...
For by them we live on...

Autumnal Amities

Wonderweaver's Venture
((a melody as haunting as it is gentling))

Something lurks in the shadows, you say...? / Might they in the shadows come out to play...?
Something lurks in the shadows, this eve'... / Is this we see all there is to perceive...?
Hushed little thing in the shadows, wherefore...? / If then spoke would it be whisper or roar...?

Roiling winds of autumn's journey toward chill...
Sanguine leaves fade to naught underfoot...
One turn more, we strive... / Hearts trembled, but alive...

Something lurks in the shadows, you say...? / If in undeath spoke, for what would it pray...?
Something lurks in the shadows, unknown... / What would you wish for in this dank abode...?
Peer now into shadows to seek... / What trembles your skin with fear that's blood-deep...?

Soured waters thundered now fell to hush...
Gods-sewn life renewed from darkest distress...
One fray left, to win... / To dank shadows, again...

Something lurks in the shadows, you say...? / What has you quiver with terror betrayed...?
A thousand undeaths and more slain alone... / Ever swift handed, and mercy unshown...
Why with pulse thrumming to-day...?

In a fairness ye shan't offer your foe...
Never before was its face your own...

--------------------------------------------------------------------

Wordweaver's Surreality
(a meandering, soft melody)

Gale... / Hush...
Rouse us 'way... / From the din...
Tempest flashes assured more than all of our shine...
Colors woven for our hearts we've not talent to find...
Fall warm into wakefulness stunning as quiet...
Rise to visions more somber than the deepest repose...

Gleam... / Murk...
Close our eyes... / From the sure...
Ancient pathways' allure unseen and unknown...
Iridescent dances 'neath 'Rifter of ages ago...
War-cries more restful than soft words among stone...
Wonderings more healing than a cleric's touch soon...

Pure... / Sharp...
Turn our eye... / From the marc...
Around and above and about us all that we are...
Beyond and below and between us commence...
Knowledge more musing than vaguest proverbs...
Yearning heeded for joy beyond profound mirth...

Afar... / Near...
Dusk 'tween days... / Safe mid nights...
Steadfast familiar... / Yet needn't wanderlust fear...

------------------------+

Wardweaver's Henceforth
((soft-spoken, rather than sang - poem))

Where walk ye in these lands so vast?
Unwearied yet in thankless turns
May strong companions at your back

Why walk ye in these lands so cold?
Seeds of bitterness unsown
May guarding boots be thickly soled

When walk ye in these lands so worn?
In dawns e'er bright or dusks lone
May cloak be warm in winter's storm

How walk ye in these lands so rough?
Even crier's voice knows rest
May sturdy sword fore'er enough

Who walk ye in these lands so sure?
Steadied for what need yet be.
For those in need, may ye endure.

Cenny's Clucky Fall Frivolity
((sung loud and merrily, midst silly dancing))

Once upon a field I strode... / Seeking tales, tales untold...
Was a mighty field I'll say... / Full of fruit and trees for days...
Not a hush of death there crept... / Turned my eyes to skies and said...
"Thank ye gods for Fall Fest fun... / Thank ye gods for 'round we run...
But there's something missing still... / Amid the harvest joys of yields...
One last thing to make complete... / This day, this fall harmony...
Dear great gods I'd say it's true... / Chickens aren't for spits and stews..."
So they said well, not much, true... / 'Cept to feather me and you...
Are ye feeling lucky, Cen...? / Nah, but I'm feeling clucky soon...!
Fare thee well to Fall Fest, friends! / May next autumn be frivolous again!

Cenny's Parity
((a mellow tune, rising and falling in gentle turn))

Surety of 'Rifter rise o'er the Wall of old... / Deep 'neath there ancients sing in ways we've yet unknown...
Solemn rest of names engraved in blood and steel in wood... / Before it lies a seed nurtured in kinship grown...
How would you define the best of us...?
In arts Valorn's soul each day reborn... / In minds Valorn's brave each day untorn...
Wherein lies the best of us...?

Quake of forgefire billowing the will of blades... / In dawn new-breaking from ill the blessed was bade...
Trees old-torn fallen to their dying days, reborn... / More in glade than forest, new life in tales strayed...
How would you remind the best of us...?
In song those hearts lofted and warmed... / In tales hearts have known colors' forms...
Wherein lies the best of us...?

Song of a child breaks o'er tended garden walls... / Dare be greater than strings that draw our brave to dance...?
Artist's brush sweeps o'er tended, wonderous naught... / Behold it dream-shadow, or breathless Valorn's expanse...
How would you decide the best of us...?
Is it builder, gard'ner, smith...? / Tale-teller, child, drawn-myth...?
Is it the soldier, each dawn to loyal post...? / Is it the boldest, e'er dared to leave land's coast...?
Wherein lies the best of us...?

Cenny's High Fathoms
((sung serene, and soothing - the accompanying strum of strings just so, gliding in nature))

Moon's gleam upon high fathoms to-night... / Hushed away in the winds of dawn-light...
Yet mid night-shadows and haunts there came... / Playful breezes for a pondering game...

Hush, of the ground, we've a tale for your ears... / Formed from featherless flight of a heart's dare of nerves...
Hush, of the kind, who've ne'er known whence we soar... / We've a tale to tell in tongue of clouds and of birds...

The breezes few, we danced and we smiled... / Our wordless words hush in ears for a while...
When mountain air fell still and fell cold... / Still echoed there precious stories we'd told...

Once among mankind we wandered and whispered... / Once from the sky we descended to know...
We heard a great gathering together among stones... / Men and women reached for the skies as though thinking they could...
A hush of a giggle alight on the breeze... / What is man to think he could fly, the windless, featherless thing?

Yet the wind fell ahush as the tales dispersed... / Ponderings unpondered and tearfully 'pplauded verse...
One among them stood, and the rest silent fell, as the one beheld mountain creases where the oft-pondered dwell...
"We've seen battles many, and loves cherished few... / We've seen where we've come from and glimpsed what we once knew..."
"We know little the chaos that trembled our world... / We've only to wonder what we could see wings unfurled..."

Once among mankind we wandered and whispered... / Once from the sky we descended to know...
Yet truly could've flown on just the same... / For all we heard sung sorrowful as it could seem...
"We've barely to fledge, yet we took to the clouds... / As we sought our lost wings, 'neath the somber moon's gleam..."
"Sought what we've lost... / Barely begun what we've dreamed..."

Cenny's Snow ~ for FrostFall
((Like a billowing winter wind, the song rises and falls, touch of phantom-longing to the tune))

Dusk of summer now well past... / Blaze of 'Rifter by pale dulled...
Dance of autumn fall'n away... / Birth of winter elder grown...
Nary whisper yet of spring... / Though e'er we're swiftly pulled...
Cast in shadows e'ery day... / As the drifts of white are prone...

Stream-carved silver 'pon the wind... / Paths we shan't follow again...
Twirling in soothe winter's thrall... / World's ghosts that in frost fall...
Stream-carved silver 'round us now... / Warmth of we a shiver's vow...
Mem'ries may forget bitter squalls... / 'Stead subtle dreams of frost falls...

Woke in morning grown pale... / Quiet settled o'er the world...
Drift in noontime through the land... / As though ne'er before I've seen...
When the evening nears again... / Sown in warmth a dream unfurled...
All the ages come and gone... / Shan't bribe from me snow's sheen...

Stream-carved silver e'erywhere... / Sings to beckon us to snare...
Drawing in to soul enthrall... / Easily swayed by soft frost fall...

Cenny's Rouse
((Midst the intermittent tide of zither strumming, this song is sung with softness, enunciation, and focus))

The song of morn' is barely breaking... / O'er the chants of winds and rains...
The winter's chills not yet forsaking... / All we have attained...
Dew tears of shadows passed by waking... / Far we've come...

Once counted marcs in tears cast mourning... / But found it nourishes naught...
Passed yet more turns by our foe's roaring... / Pondered what war wrought...
Cared less then for those cycles yearning... / Time to rest...?

Long days in a dream's cradle lurking... / 'Til the ages pass long by...
Could turn to stone but for the sparking... / Lest dreamscapes run dry...
In our respite shade and light parting... / Fade...not yet...

Dreams of a soul not lost in rousing... / Waking world feels hush gray...
A welcome's rush not yet inspiring... / Midst languid qualms, a ray...
No matter into dusk or morning... / Shan't least fear...

No matter where...
