DNS

DNS will be undergoing some changes today that might make DG unreachable if something goes wrong. Please bear with us.

A reminder about drama

Everyone knows that DG is a very social system. In a sense it could be seen like highschool. Everyones vying for status through levels and other accomplishments. Generally those who like what they see and stick around carve out a little place for themselves in the social structure. Just like in scho...

It wasn't an equal sign that was the problem really. There was a typo with an = that broke the fix again, but mainly the problem was that I'd update a row, then ask how many rows I updated. I'd get 0 as my answer. Its done a better way now :)

I fixed it this time. If not, blame luna ambrose :)

For anyone curious why this is so hard to track down, its because some odd mysql functionality. I worked around it with no extra code, but it took foooor evvvvver.

Board Mods

I have locked down the boards to require admin approval before you can post. I prefer that to requiring a level limit. Spammers are now registering for the game, then the boards and mass registering. I modified the board so that official mods can approve users as a test. I'd like mods to take a look...

This bug should have been fixed right about the time the previous person posted last night. Basicly, for some reason, that monster is triggering the double drop bug detector, so our fight is not counting for death. Only the first death will. If the monster is still alive in 5 seconds now, then you c...

Thats pretty much it. I will be replacing that form of spam checking in the future, but have held off on it due to developing I'm doing now. I'll be integating the forums much better with the game and having much better spam protection when I'm done. I just don't want to keep patching code the way I...

Most people who've been around that long know how I deal with things like that. I'm someone who tends to talk a lot when it comes to preventing behavior. Sometimes I just don't feel like explaining to people they're being stupid so lots of people got struck by lightning or set on fire in that period...

Ok, so it seems that DNS resolution was the issue. I hate computers. I've temporarily hardcoded the IP addresses and everything should be all shiney and new.

It also appears to be the DB itself, which means the whole site will be effected.

This is something I'm investigating still, but appears to be a connectivity issue with my provider as all the servers are up, but some are having issues talking to each other. Forgive intermittent outtages. I'm only being informed of the outtage if it happens when my datacenter monitoring software g...

Post more about when this happens to you. How often it happens and how often it doesn't for instance. Is this the normal way for things to be for you and its been a bug all along, or did it just start happening at some time.

Unexpected DG Maint today :)

So as you all know I'm rewriting a lot of DG to scale over multiple webservers better. Well today I went to make some adjustments and the server just decided to fall over :) So after it came back up I made my changes and monitored it for a while. The game was repeatedly logging people out, but that ...
