Use the Search function
Many many many (and again) many things have been suggested before, use the search function to see if what you think has been posted before.
Old threads
Ben wrote:Stop bringing old stuff up.
If your question has already been answered you probably shouldn’t post but if you do want to continue an old discussion you would be wise to point out the original posts date to avoid confusing anyone.
Creating a new thread
Ben wrote: ... if you have a new suggestion you should really form your own line and start a brand new thread, please and thank you.
ALSO, people stop labeling your threads, "New suggestion!" and stuff like that. Summarize your actual suggestion and use that as your topic. And only put ONE SUGGESTION per thread. If you have three suggestions, make three threads.
Ben wrote: ... because SUBJECT fields that dont mention what the thread is about in the BUGS forum or the SUGGESTIONS forum tick me off.
So create a new thread with the subject as the title and limit yourself to one suggestion per topic.
Ask nicely
This is the obvious one, if you can’t ask nicely then what you suggest is very unlikely to go in and more likely to offend someone, never a good thing.
Ben wrote:Phrase suggestions in a courteous manner. You make suggestions because you want to see that thing put into the game. Well, we are more likely to respect your opinion and like your ideas if the suggestion is put forth in a nice way. REALIZE that the creators of this game are very busy people, and that this is just a hobby for them... and keep that in mind when suggesting. DO suggest things by saying "It would be cool if..." or "You know what is an interesting idea?" DO NOT suggest things by saying "You NEED X in your game..." or "Boy does this class suck right now... it would be good if you added X." Even comments like "if I were making this game, it would have X" can be annoying. =) Annoyed admins are unproductive admins.
Be focused
Ben wrote:Personally, I like the suggestions written in a short, concise manner....
But not too specific
Ben wrote:This may seem nitpicky, but try to be less specific with your suggestions ... WE like to determine where things go and how they go there. A suggestion is much less likely to be turned into reality when a player tries to tell us how to do things.
Avoid in game slang
Ben wrote:Cory and I don't know player slang. =) Its kind of funny... sometimes we get emails reporting stuff that has a bunch of slang in it, and we have no idea what people are talking about.
Short and sweet
Cory wrote:If you guys are going to write long winded posts, go back and summerize them for me at the beginning. I was actually reading this thread since I have a keen interest in the death system right now, but I'm not interested in reading debate. While the debate may be crucial to you guys roughing out ideas and visions, it just translates into "words....words.... maybe an idea there..... words" to me since I have so little time to browse all of the bugs and suggestions. I am not saying to stop the debate, by all means continue, but summarize what you've said again at the beginning so I can skip the rest while getting the main points.
When responding to suggestions
Ben wrote:Its hard enough on somebody's ego when Cory or I shoot down the idea... they don't need other people shooting down the idea as well afterward.
Cory wrote:Please do not turn this into a discussion thread, limit it to suggestions about improving the Inn or move your discussion to another forum.
Try to keep replies constructive and positive.
When its your suggestion
Ben wrote:No need to be so defensive of your idea, mate. Threads in the suggestions forum are all about poking and prodding ideas to squeeze every last bit of creativity out of the minds of those who walk this world.
Try not to take anything said personally, turning the discussion into an argument will never help your suggestion.
Be patient
Ben wrote:We are not going to answer every thread, and those we do answer we are not always going to answer right away. We do read everything. Cory's policy, especially with bugs, is to not post until they are fixed. My policy is to not post unless I think I have something important to add.

Finally remember changes happen
Ben wrote:Everybody who plays this game knows or should know that we are in a state of development, and that changes … will happen.
Changes are always going to happen in the game (yay!) so avoid posting ‘I don’t like this suggestion’ or 'it isn't broke so don't fix it' because there are always going to be changes in the future, some of which you may not like.
