When Nexus met Balthazar (Not a love story)

It was a mild day in Dundee Square. The sky was
a gentle shade of blue, speckled with fluffy
white clouds. A light breeze playing through
the trees.

The townspeople were busy going about their
daily chores. In the distance the sounds of
the marketplace intermingled with the occasional
merchant loudly hawking his wares.

The odors that filled the air here were mixed
and varied as well. One second the smell of
meat being cooked on an open fire would rise
above the rest. Only to be replaced with the
smell of some noxious fume.

All in all, a normal day in Dundee Square.
Also, as usual, there were a handful of
adventurers milling about, talking to Tyral
and Jolan, as well as each other. When Nexus
entered the square he noticed this gathering
and recognized a few of the adventurers standing
there. He made his way towards the group and
bid them all a hearty welcome and they replied
in kind. The conversation was friendly and often
jovial. None expected what was about to transpire.

The first signs of something amiss began with the
wind blowing through the square. Suddenly it turned
from a mild warm breeze into a chilling harsh gust.
Everyone standing in the square became quiet. They
all began to look around, It seems everyone had the
same chilling feeling, they were not alone.

Next there came an unnatural darkness, seemingly
out of nowhere. It was as if the sun had been snuffed
out in an instant. Those standing in the square
began to arm themselves, not knowing what might happen
next. Nexus pulled forth his shield and sword, both
items containing light giving magics. Yet in this
unnatural darkness they barely shone at all. Then as
if from nowhere and everywhere at the same time, there
was heard a deep hollow laughter. The very sound of it
making the hairs on the back of the neck stand up, and
sending a cold shiver down one's spine.

Then without notice, there appeared a huge form of a
man. He seemed to hover slightly above the ground.
The laughter suddenly stopped, and the dark hulking
creature began to speak. "So this is the best that
Valorn has to offer in it's defense? Why your little
more than babies." Although Nexus had never seen the
dark Lord Balthazar, this most certainly had to be him.
Nexus felt the blood rushing through his veins, and the
anger welling up inside of him after being insulted by
this evil demonmonger. Nexus could not stand idle any
longer. Nexus pointed his sword at the creature and
yelled out "Do you think to scare us with thy little
parlor trick oh Lord of Maggots, spare us your trivial
insults and let us fight instead." The evil one merely
smirked and said "I would not bother myself with such
a pitiful group as this." Nexus was beside himself
with fury. He decided to attack this creature even if
it cost him his life. Nexus screamed at the evil one
"Enough talk maggot lord, have at it then." And
with that Nexus began to charge at the creature. Yet
suddenly everything froze. He could see everyone but
nothing was moving, not even the branches on the trees
would move. And then the whole area around him seemed
to slowly fade to black.

The next thing Nexus could see as the light slowly
began to return, was that he no longer stood in the
Dundee square. He was in fact, now standing in the
middle of the wastelands. He thought to himself,
what a coward the evil one was.Then he saw them.
Two huge monstrosities heading in his direction.
Nexus readied himself for their attack, at that
very moment a ray of sunlight shone down exactly
where he was standing. The creatures stopped their
advance, avoiding the sunlight at all cost. Nexus
said a prayer of thanks to the Eternal Light. He
then looked around in all directions and suddenly
noticed the walled city of Branishor behind him.
He began to head towards it and the light followed
him up to the gates. He was safe at last.

Nexus will never forget the day he met Balthazar,
and he prays that next time they meet he will
have the chance to repay the evil one in steel.

One day you'll get your chance to fight Balthazar just like every seasoned adventure!

This meeting is simply a show that Balthazar is simply one who tries to strike fear rather than do any real damage. Though I do admit is power...

I know this moment well... 'twas a day not to forget. Or maybe I am thinking of the wrong time. Anyway, I'll get that rat back for the six years he robbed from me!
