'PICTURE IT' contest 2

Postby Miranda of Admin » Thu Jul 23, 2009 8:33 pm

Some time ago, Ben announced the first in a series of contests - the 'picture it' contests. His first challenge was to draw the Building of Glass. I've decided to pick this up where it was discontinued. And so, get your crayons, watercolors, pixels at the ready...

I challenge you to illustrate Caer Laleldan.

The prize, as before, will be the winner's choice of either a title (to be chosen by me) or something nice for their guildhall. If the winner has two titles and no guild, I shall think of something else specifically at that time. The prize is not transferable to any other character, so please specify which character on your entry.

Here are the rules, almost exactly as they were in the last contest.

RULES:

1) All art must be submitted in JPG or GIF format by posting it in this thread on the following days: August 7 or August 8 by midnight EST. You have until then to prepare your art, but you should avoid posting until those last two days so others don't steal your ideas. =)

2) All submitted art must be an original work by the submitter.

3) By submitting art, by posting the art in this thread, you are turning over all rights to the particular work to Grimoire Entertainment Inc.

4) Only one submission per contest per human being.

5) Artwork posted in here should be no bigger than 600 pixels wide and 600 pixels high. Art can be sketched, painted, photoshopped, or made in any way you please as long as they bear no copyright infringement. Please use your own website to host the image, or use a free service to host the image, such as Image Shack (http://www.imageshack.us/).

Any questions can be posted in this thread. Remember, this contest ends at midnight EST on August 8th.

Firstly Huzzah!

Secondly in the first contest there was a specified view point IE Ben wanted to be able to see the whole building as viewed from outside. Is there any specified viewpoint for this contest or can it be an inside view of the throne room or grand hall for example?

Good question, thank you.

I think we'll go with an outside view for just now, but I won't restrict it any further - so you can focus on one part of the outside in detail, do a birds-eye view, or an overall perspective of the outside. You can also take if from any side of the castle.

Unfortunately due to RL commitments I won't be around this weekend so hope you don't mind another early posting.

Thank you for your fantastic entries so far, I look forward to seeing what else is posted over the weekend.

Bebhinn, if you are around before then, I'm interested in the similarities between your art: http://yfrog.com/15caerllaledanj and this photo copyrighted to Risto Hurmalainen: http://koti.welho.com/rhurmal1/linnat2004/33M.jpg

Thanks,

Caer Laleldan
Here is my submission. It is a view facing north, directly towards the doors to the Great Hall.

Im not very good at this art stuff, admittedly... and this probably doesnt really count as an outside view - buts looking out over the balcony. Its supposed to be Cordelia (or at least, artistically speaking and all...) with the Sword of Valorn ...

I call it, Queen's Repose

So many great entries :) Well done!

Well, I think it's time I judged this. Seeing as how Fall Fest is coming up, and I'm sure I will be running other contests for that.

I found this so difficult. I like most of them for one reason or another. Some because they are artistically brilliant, some because they are charming, some because they make me smile.

For this, I'm going to choose... Raffe's. I appreciate some people may moan about this, because it's not exactly a view of the castle from outside, but it's an outside part of the castle. And, ever since I found DG all those years ago... before Miranda was even a twinkle in Ben's eye... the balcony has been one of my favorite places. As well as being a highly original take on this, it includes a person and people are extremely hard to express artistically. It may not be the most technically perfect picture, but to me it captures a moment, an emotion, and that's what I wanted.

So, Iron Knight Raffe Rychmin gets a title. Sorry Twenty Two, you already have Kodi so I'm not giving him the choice of something else for his guildhall. Win the next 'best guild' contest and you might get something else then ;)
