Vanguard Lemonaide Recipe Contest!
(Forum contest only. Winners to be announced at the end of Summer Faire.)

As part of our Annual Lemonaide Social The Vanguard would like those of you who love to cook and be creative in the kitchen to submit your best "LEMON" inspired recipies. They can be sweet or savory, hot or cold, vegetarian or carniverous, a main dish, dessert, or a beverage. The only thing they need to have in common is the one key ingredient: LEMONS!

RULES:
1) It must be a dish or beverage created with ingredients within Trinald/Valorn/Ethucan. A spray can of PAM would not exist, except perhaps for the gods.
2) Format is that of a recipe.
3) Describe HOW it is made, how many it serves, etc...
4) Also include a bit of history of where your recipe came from, or how it was inspired.

This came t' me a while ago durin' a raid on Kili. Ad a few differnt ales an some fruit in me pack while I's fightin' some vipers. I'll jus say e'erythin' in me pack was one after it was over.

1 mug o' pirate ale
1 mug o' brewsky
1 mug o' MSG
2 mugs o' night smoke (Note: Not sure where t' get it nowadays. Adn't seen it fer a long time.)
2 fresh squeezed lemons
1 diced korunga

Put ingredients in large bowl or helmet and mix. Serves one unless yer a average person then might serve four. If yer wonderin, aye, ale was invovled in makin' this drink I like t' call 'The Smoking Viper.'

Note: Would like t' talk to a cook or someone that know ow t' make ale. Ave an idea t' make a new drink.

Seared Crabthing meat with Lemon - Entree

Ingredients

1 Crabthing - whole
12 lemons - large
Assortment of desired fruits

Preparation

1. Clean Crabthing and separate meat from the shell and extremities. Set aside to soak in fresh water.
2. Slice lemons in halves, and squeeze juice into large mixing bowl.
3. Remove Crabmeat from water, pat dry, then add to the lemon juice.
4. Allow to soak for six marcs.
5. Heat flat pan and sear crabmeat until fully cooked. Set aside to cool. (I transfer the meat to another flat pan that has been chilled over ice crystals.)
6. Clean and cut your selected fruit.
7. Lay out fruit in eight legs with the chilled crabmeat in the center.
8. Enjoy.

Serves 1 per crabthing.

Fresh Lemonade - Drink

Ingredients
10 lemons - large
1/2 mug of Sugar
6 Mugs of Spring Water filtered over Lava Rocks

Preparation

1. Cut Lemons in halves, squeeze into large pitcher.
2. Stir in sugar and water.

(I tend to use more lemon, and less sugar for an extra tart taste.)

Serves roughly 6.

The Nutty Lemon - Dessert

Ingredients

Palm of Lemon Zest - 2 Large lemons
1/2 Mug of Nuts
1 Mug of Azure's Night Smoke

Preparation

1. Cleans nuts, then soak in a small bowl with the Night Smoke for 12 marcs.
2. Zest 2 large lemons and set aside.
3. Remove nuts from Night Smoke and lay out on flat pan.
4. Sprinkle the Lemon Zest evenly over the nuts.
5. Bake over direct heat for 3 Marcs.

Serve Warm.

Serves roughly 4.

(The Night Smoke is the key ingredient with this dessert as it already has a taste of lemon to it. Being my favorite drink...well, that is simply a bonus.)

Coming from Caern, crabthing meat was a staple in many homes. Lemons and Korungas were commonly found on our docks and so they were easily joined to make numerous dishes. These here are all special to my youth, and thus a stalwart in my cooking experience. I decided to provide a full course, instead of just one item, as a meal isn't about one part, but the taste in its entirety.

Thank you for such a wonderful contest. Few may be aware, but I truly enjoy cooking, and though I do not do it for others often, it is my favorite pastime.

LEMON FIZZY:

1 cup of sparkling wine
1 cup of fresh squeezed lemon juice
1/2 cup of sugar

Mix ingredients and then pour into empty jar
Seal jar, shake vigorously until fizzy and slightly frothy
Sugar the rim of a honeyed-ice glass
Pour drink into sugared glass and shave lemon zest over top of the froth and fizz

GARNISH WITH:

1 slice of korunga
1 lemon wedge covered in sugar
2 berries
(spear all items with a clean lock pick and place into drink)

Lemon Tea

Finely chopped lemon rind and fragrant spices steep in warm water for a delicious beverage on perchance a cool summer evening. A tinge of honey adds perfect sweetness to the drink.

Here is my recipe for consideration

ROSE SCENTED LEMONADE

6 lemons
The petals from one rose (red)
Water from a waterfall
1 cup of nectar

Squeeze the juice from the lemons into a vessel then add the washed rose petals. To the mixture add the water then the nectar then mix thoroughly strain the rose petals out with a cloth. Serve over ice drink immediately.

Lemony lemony drink

Ingredients - lemons, lemons - and more lemons!

Peel a few lemons, retaining the peel for later use.
Squeeze the juice from the lemons into a jar.
Strain the juice through a piece of cloth into another jar to remove any pips or traces of lemon flesh.
Cut a lemon into quarters, float in the jar of lemon juice.
Cut the lemon peel you retained into smallish pieces, and sprinkle onto the drink as a garnish.

Serves - anyone who can stand the taste!

( I got the idea for this ... ummm ... concoction one day when stuck far from civilisation with nothing in my pack but lemons! It was quite a few days before my eyes stopped watering.)
